Hello all,

Been reading a ton lately about the "Best" left handed pistols

It's all the same, M&P, Walther's, G5 glocks
...
What else is out there?.

What has your personal experience been as a left handed pistol owner?.

Any and all info helps!

Thanks.

Hi,

Well I haven't shot a lot of different pistols, the ones I have shot weren't an issue.

Both pistols and revolvers.

Even most rifles are okay.

Cheers,
EZTRGT

I'm a lefty, and have bought/used pistols of several makes and calibers over the years, among them being a Glock and a couple of Norincos, both a 1911 .45 and an NZ85 9mm..
Both Norincos had ambidextrous safeties, which worked well, and I found no problem using my left trigger finger for the slide and magazine releases on either of them or the Glock.
It's pretty much a matter of trying as many as you can get your hands on to find which works best for you.

That being said, my personal preference is for double-action revolvers.

I find it easier to just shoot right handed pistols as a lefty, I either rack the slide manually or use my left index finger to use the slide release as well as mag release. Honestly, I switched the mag release to the right side of my M&P and I didn’t like it. The only thing that’s a pain is not having an ambi safety lever on a gunnwith an external safety, but any pistol class I’ve taken I only shot my M&P. For general range plinking I don’t use the thumb safety 90% of the time on my 1911 anyway, I just shoot till empty and I don’t have a holster for it anyway.

I guess I don’t really care if a pistol has any ambi features, the only thing I shoot thats a pain as a lefty sometimes is a scoped bolt action and it’s only a pain if I want to shoot quickly.

Leftie here, I have bought every pistol I have ever owned since 1977 ambi and all 9mm
CZ75
CZ SP-01
Walther Navy
S&W M&P 9
Kimber 1911
Grand Power k100 X-trim Mk12

My favorite of all those were the Walther and my current Grand Power. Both have phenomenal triggers right out of the box.
All my long guns are Remington 700 LH's with one Savage LH thrown in the mix in 0.243

Lefty here, owned couple of pistols before, most of them can switch the mag release to left side, like CZ SP01 and Glock. Just purchased G19x, love it so far.

i have a lot of pistols and shoot left.
while i can shoot any pistol left its always nice to have one that has some ambi features.
that said your original list is where i would guide you.
the new Gen5 glocks are nice and im not gonna lie i find it really hard to go back to my Gen3 and Gen4 now that ive gotten use to shooting the ambi Glocks.
S&W M&P have been my go to pistols for years and they are very nice and handy with the ambi.

if you wanna go older pretty much anything buy ruger seems to be ambi friendly.
the old solid P-89's for sure, my first pistol and nice and ambi.

The Beretta 92FS/96FS series pistols have an easily manipulated bilateral slide mounted saftey. Some 1911's have the right safetyfactory installed. You usually must go upscale to have this included though....
I like the bilateral safety on the superior CZ SP01 Shadow. Easy on & off too. I like the Shadow 2 but their new standard bilateral safety is a bit of a challenge. The right lever is too shallow for easy manipulation. CZ did include a better spare set when they first came out, but now you must purchase the set separately.

The new M&P9 2.0's slide release lever on the right side (for lefties) is almost impossible to operate. It may as well be absent.

The first gen m&p is the same which is why I’m so used to index fingering it with my trigger finger lol, most people complain about the trigger on the first gen’s but for me the slide release on the right side is the worst part they designed.

The HK P30 is a good ambi/lefty option.

Not the best trigger, but feels good in the hand.

I've always heard good things about HK's. They definitely look more premium. I'll give them a more thorough review!.

thank you for the info.

I will give all the pistols on your list a second look for sure

I've read a lot regarding the feel of the Walther triggers and will have to go play with one in person.

I'll give that Grand power a deeper review as well.

As for the 700's I haven't been able to get my hands on a left handed one, yet. But i will keep looking!.

Thank you for the information!.

If only they had Gen 5 Glock 19's available in Canada :(

As for the M&P's I'll definitely have to give them a second look.

Thank you for the info regarding the old P-89's.

They look sweet af, i'll definitely have to get my mitts on one and see how they feel!

I am currently looking at the stainless 1911A1 by Norinco and i am definitely on the fence.
I've heard the interior tooling quality was hit or miss, is this true from your experience?.
I agree 100% with physically trying them out and will be attempting to get my hands on all mentioned pistols to see how they feel
I've never actually handled a revo that wasn't airsoft or a S&W 500
that being said, i will def take a look at some .38's next time I'm at the store / range
Thank you for the info!.

Glocks and P320 get the thumbs up from me as a lefty. The P226/229 are a no go

I'll take another look at the P320 in person as I've been told several times that they're fantastic.

As for the P226/229, what were your issues with it?.

I was torn between the 19x and the 19 Canadian, ended up going for the Maple leaf edition & May go back for the 19x, just cause ambi + The slide color in person looks pretty cool

I only wish they made the 19x reverse; 19 lower + 17 upper.

Fair point regarding the 1911. I guess right handed pistols aren't bad at all if you're just going to mag dump them.

I am looking for a dedicated target pistol, the M&P, Walther + HK's are right at the top of the list!.

As for bolt actions, it is defiantly annoying when that bolt slides back into your face but after shooting a dedicated left handed bolt action, i do have to say i enjoy the right handed ones more

Berettas are a classic, I've been drolling over the 92 inox for a while now.

I do have to say, the Beretta compensators look top notch.

You are 100% correct regarding the 1911's, upscale is the way to go for Ambi-ish features & better internal tooling.
CZ's i haven't been able to get my hands on, yet.
But i will be checking them out when i have time.

Thank you!.

Administrative manipulations are difficult with them because of where the slide lock/release lever is. Strong side single handed manipulations require a significant breaking of your grip and are very difficult to do at the best of times.

i have a G17C Gen3 and a G19TB Gen3 and i was torn.....
i like the 17 but i find it big in the hand and of course not ambi friendly.
i like the size of the 19 but the finger grooves i HATE and of course its not ambi friendly.

i went with the 19X and im in love with that pistol.
i swapped the mag release over to left and it has the ambi slide release that works VERY well.
as i left handed shooter i highly recommend it.

as you mentioned, i was not 100% sold on the way they did the 19X - i too was thinking they got it backwards and should have gone with the 17 slide on a 19 frame but i swear, there is something about the 19X the way it is..... its just so nice to handle and shoot!
the 17 frame and the 19 slide are just...... right!
