As it's rather rather ovious, the swedish AG42B (Ljungman) is my favorite rifle. Their are lots of reasons for this, but one of the main ones is that it's very "lefty friendy" and being left handed this is a big "pro" for the rifle.

Anyway, I was toying with my CZ-858 last night and was comparing it to my AG42B in how the triangler dust cover and bolt carrier were similar in both designs, when I thought "Man, it would be sweet if the CZ had it's bolt carrier handle on the left. Seeing as how it's selector is on the right and VERY lefty-friendly, that would make it so much better."

So, then I thought "Why not? I've got an extra bolt carrier to play with so let's have some fun!"

I first took out the trusty dremel and used a cut-off wheel to remove the handle. Then I filed it flush and cold blued it over.

My orignal plan was to drill a hole clean throught the handle (length wise) tap it, drill a hole in the left side of the carrier, tap that as well and use a headless bolt to hold it on. The handle however is very solid and I could only drill half way through before the bit brought up solid:(

No matter, I just used the dremel as a laid and used a file to make two peices of metal into a faitly similar handle. I then taped them, attached the completed handle to the carrier and cold blued it all for good measure.

As I've said, this was a spare bolt carrier so I can switch back anytime, but I can't wait to try out my new "lefty-friendly" CZ.

Now the only question is....should I get a patent?:D

... in other words, that is friggin awesome. I'll be trying that myself now.

Heck, im not a lefty and I would rather have it on the left side. It is easier to get the gun back into action after a mag change as you don't have to use your right hand or tilt the gun in order to pull the charging handle.

Agreed! I was thinking of doing the same thing, but as I have a total of zero metal working tools...

I also though of making an extended mag release that would reach to the right side of the gun to facilitate right handed mag changes.

I think you have actually made the thing right handed!! As a lefty I have always preferred the cocking handle on the right side of my guns, that way you never let go of the pistol grip for reloads.
Just a thought.

Seems a lot of 'righties' like it on the left side (myself included). Now if someone would go ahead and put the safety switch on the left side as well, everything would be just about perfect

Funny post and a damn fine job on the convert Ljungman. :D

Let us know how she shoots!

That was a lot of work for nothing. All you had to do was drill a hole in your head for the evil spirits to go out and you would have been right handed.

Actually, that rifle is now perfect ofr lefties. You should not have to remove your hand from the grip to perform any function on the rifle (charging, mag changes, etc.).

I thought of that, but I don't wanna mess with the other bolt carrier.

I like having it on the left...it's different to so it adds to appeal.

Thanks for the comments guys.

i just drilled a hole and screwed in a bolt with a spacer. did it when i first got the rifle. only problem is when i hold the rifle like my AR, thumbs high on left hand.

the bolt hits your thumb pretty hard.

Looks good, Ljungman!
I don't understand why more manufactureres don't set set up with LH charging handles. I am a righty but I found the LH handles to be the best set-up: Ie Hk & FAL
