My wife is in the market for an AR 15 variant.

As a portsider, is she going to be bothered by the starboard side ejection?

Nope. The deflector works well in what it was designed to do. Shoot away. Now you just to decide on which flavor in an AR you want. :)

^^^^

True that. I'm a lefty, you adapt. Plenty of Ambi upgrades out there if needed. I find it kind of nice being able to see inside the chamber while the rifle is shouldered. You can see malfunctions easier. Just my 2cents.

^^This!!

Buy the proper left handed rifle and you'll never have to worry. The cost difference doesn't justify the risk of her taking brass in the face.

I bought my son a Stag lefty AR.

He's my son, I buy him the correct equipment.

Lol.
Are you left handed? How would you know what works if you aren't?

I think the lefty Stags are an answer to a question no left-handed shooter asked....

I'm right handed but left eye dominant so shoot my AR left handed, never had an issue.

I'm sure looking for a left handed AR your options will be limited.

I'm completely ambidextrous.

My 6 year old son is left eye dominant and left handed.

Have any other stupid questions?

I shot a bit of rounds down my AR and other folk's ARs and as a lefty shooter, never got hit in the face or arm. Lots of lefty AR shooters out there that haven't gotten hit in their face 'cause the deflector did its job. Where's the problem? lol

Not saying NOT to buy a left handed AR, just that the regular ones work for lefty shooters too.

My son is leftie and shoots mine and his AR's left, and used his C7A2 left. No issues. Myself I would look at the Stag leftie if I were a leftie and hadn't developed a comfort zone working around the right handed guns for years..

If you want a truly LH AR, have a look at the Rock River Arms LH versions. Unlike the Stag AR which is basically a LH upper on a stock lower, the RRA LH lowers have the bolt catch/release on the right hand side and the upper's dust cover flips down and not upwards.

The shell deflector will keep hot brass away from her noggin in mirror style use.

That said, if she is nervous about brass ejecting close in front of her face, there are left hand uppers out there, just be prepared to spend a minimum of 50-100% more for an equivalent left hand upper.

PS...

I would hate using a lefty upper if it was my personal rifle... since I am a righty. Get what works for the operator of the rifle. Buy one, and you won't have to buy again if you do your research properly.

I'm a lefty and a few years ago I built a lefty AR using Stag parts. Loved that rifle...and I will pick up another Stag lefty in the near future. I just finished another AR, this one is a righty. The cases ejecting across my face never really bothered me...I've certainly never been nailed by one as the deflector works really well. Inhaling the gas bugged me more than the cases, and having a lefty AR with the ejection port on the correct side, I noticed a big difference in the amount of gas I was inhaling. The gas gives me a wicked headache...that's the only reason why I really care.

I'm a left handed shooter and the last 5 AR's I've owned were all right hand and I never had an issue with brass hitting me in the face. Having said that the only reason I haven't bought a proper left handed AR yet is because of resale value for left handed AR's.

Lol.

You think that, but talking to govt customers who are using LH Stags overseas, they say the LH ejection port keeps them 'in the fight' where otherwise they are blinded by gas, particularly when using a can. Also, try using a RH gun lefthanded from a passenger seat. They like them and have purchased a fair number, I am told they are popular amongst the lefties.

Those who like them, like them a lot.
