Lefty use of AR 15

What brand of AR? What kind of ammo? This sounds lie a correctible problem.

the one that is snapping them back is a Norc and pretty much anything i chuck in it it does it with.
ive also had more then one person whos beside me at the range complain that they are coming out pretty much horizontal and mach 5 and pelting them.
not the nice high arc that we all like to see in the movies.

The single biggest problem with left hand AR is when you want to sell it, nobody wants it.

If a right handed AR is perfectly suitable for a left handed person then the reverse is true as well. And that being the case, a right handed guy would buy a left handed AR if the price was right. We know that doesn't happen though. There's a reason for that... right handed guns are better for right handed shooters.

Yeah as a left handed person I can and have adapted to right handed guns. But I'd rather have a gun designed and built so I don't have to adapt.

So, should I order an ambi safety for my wife's S&W AR 15 or wait and see how she 'adapts and over comes' to the factory part? In the event she wants one, who carries them?

Based on her experience with the 1911, an ambi was essential. I'm sure most lefties would agree. She also had difficulty dropping the mags with her left index finger.

I just installed a Mitchell Custom RIGHT hand mag release on one of her 1911's and her IPSC mag change technique took a quantum leap forward. I tried it and liked it so much, I installed the same unit on one of mine! It is so RIGHT you have to wonder why JMB didn't incorporate it into the original 1911 design, making it more universal.

Your trigger finger goes right to the mag button and then to the end of the slide stop, keeping it the hell out of the trigger guard. An idea whose time has come.

Wolverine, Questar, One Shot Tactical all should have the ambi safety. Pretty much any manufacturer will be good.

There are 4 or 5 different flavours of ambi mag release. The only one I've used is the Norgon, I liked it. KAC and Troy are also well-reviewed.

S&J has a milled ambi safety that looks just like the BAD A$$ ones for $50. Not a bad price. I too like the Norgon ambi mag release and just got one in from Brownells for my 300BLK.

Definitely go with ambi controls on the lower. Even right handed people should have ambi controls in the event you're shooting off hand. The controversy is geared more towards the upper receiver.

But. .. I'm not training. .. Or required to use issued kit. So why "adapt" when I can l procure myself something specifically tailored to me for roughly the same price?

As already stated, the regular AR with right ejection is perfect for a lefty...the OP asked for opinions from lefties, and got it.

If I was right handed, with my experience as a lefty - I'd run one of the left eject Stags - as weird as that sounds.

Lots of guys building custom bolt guns opt for left eject and right bolt throw - if they are right handed.

AR's have such, um, positive ejection that she'll likely not see the empties flying over her shoulder. Shooting a standard semi-auto(Or an MG) left handed is nothing to worry about.
Geeuz. Suggesting that the empties will ever go anywhere near her face indicates a lack of experience.

If you have an old one without an ejector bump you could.

Like many other southpaws, I shoot all my AR's right handed. I have never had any problems with brass in my face. But, hopefully all shooters, left-handed or right-handed wear safety glasses to minimize the potential for eye injury.

Not a problem at all, lefty myself. I would say a Lefty even has an edge over a righty on manipulate the bolt release, as you can single handed it with your left index finger. Just put on a ambi-saftey are you are good to go!

I am a full time left handed person. The only advantage I see in a lefty AR is the fact that you won't get as much brass or carbon tossed at your face. I have felt a lot of carbon strike me near the eyes especially when firing full auto (thank you ballistic eyewear) over the years.

I don't own one and never will; you can train yourself and mod any AR to fit you very well. However, I see why there's a market for them. You should get both models and see which one you gravitate towards after a few years of use!
