**Legal info for short pump action shotguns**

Just had a chat with the CFC techs... for now we can put a factory pistol grip on any lenght barreled Rem 870 (folding stock is still subject to the 26" rule). The catch here is that it was stressed that it is "for now" and this stands a good chance of changing so if you do it and it is below 26" with the pistol grip you need to stay alert to any changes that would make it illegal that may come down the pipes.

If the classification changes it will become restricted with the pistol grip, and non-restricted if you add a full stock.

Case in point, the Franchi PA-3 which is restricted. I have owned 2 of them and both legally and correctly registered as restricted because of the folding stock. The barrel is 8.5", overall length about 18 to 20"

whats unbelieveable is your general attitude about questions. If it's so bloody legal, why are you freaking out every time anyone questions it? I'm very glad Dlask is making these, and I'd like to get one sometime soon. either way I'm unimpressed that you cant post in a civilized manner like everyone else here.

the more you guys challenge and ask about its legality the more eyes will be on it and the more likely it will be changed.......everyone....ENOUGH ALREADY !!!!!!!

There are lots of eyes on it right now.... Doesn't much matter what we do, there has been a #### load of attention on this at the CFC since it first came up here on CGN.

I just saw a full page advertisement for it in a Canadian gun Paper.
(You know the one. I can't remember the name right now).

Just to be clear I called to see if I could put a pistol grip in my 14" 870 and they said yes for now.

Really?

So they are now saying that an individual can shorten the firearms OAL to under 26"?

I'd get that in writing and I hope you kept track of who told you.
Not to poop on this, but the folks that answer the phones at the CFC are not enforcers of the Law, they are data entry clerks.

I can understand the Manufacturer being able to do this, but an individual?
Methinks something is fishy.

Apperently they are hinging it on the word 'modified'. Essentially.

If you cut an existing gun down, or barrel down, that's a no no.

If you replace a factory part with another part from a manufacturer - apperently you're not 'altering' the gun, you're just replacing parts with other manufactured parts.

This only applies to the 870 and you would have to have it registered with the shorter barrel as far as I understand it. They where very clear that this may only be a short term thing and stands to be changed/corrected at anytime.

I just got the 12.5" barrel from Dlask, since my 870 cert specifies >470mm barrel I called the CFC about changing my registration to reflect the shorter barrel, she seemed very confused about confirming if this was a requirement or not and took the info to pass on to the registration group.

Can anyone confirm this requirement, I read the regulations but it is very unclear with regards to this situation ??

Nice, we need more questions to cfc.

Would you rather get an unpleasant suprise at a roadside checkpoint someday?

It's their Job to answer firearms related regulation questions at the CFC, the women on the phone are not making the choices.

I could care less about a roadside check. I bought it legally and have all paperwork to prove that it is legal.

Just curious what paperwork you have that proves that it's legal. Registration Cert, copy of FRT# ? No where on either of those does it say that it's legal to have a pistol grip on a shotgun under 26". I'm not saying that it's not but this whole thing is starting to stink. How is this only applicable to the 870? Why can't I put a pistol grip on a 14" Ithaca? And where are the rulings in writing that support any of this. So far all I've seen is quotes from a letter from an unnamed source and someone elses hearsay about phone calls they had with the RCMP. Where are the legal rulings? And before someone mentions an FRT# again, that doesn't prove anything.

ETA: This should get ponts going again.

WOW intelligent post Leg

The only thing that stinks here is your post.

Leg - if a firearm is registered and verified in it's current configuration... it's legal. Period.

Not sure - don't buy one.

Seriously - the first 300 posts questioning the decision were understandable, but at this point i think we've put it to bed.

How about locking some of these threads that endlessly challenge the legality of a LEGAL product? How long does the bashing of a LEGAL product being sold by a CGN SPONSORED DEALER have to happen?

It is time for the mods to get involved and stand up for one of there sponsored dealers!!!!!
