Ok so like many here I purchased an Alpharms 15sa shotgun from wolverine when they were blowing them out. Fun little shotgun for sure and I am really enjoying it. That being said I know most the Turkish made magazine fed shotguns take the same magazine and I know that there is some 10 rounders out there for pump action models (such as the Uzkon as46). I have talked to some friends and have done some google searches and I can not get what I would consider a firm answer on is it legal to use a 10 rounder in the semi Alpharms. I do know that magazine limits are based on what that mag was made for not what it may also fit (looking at you LAR 15 mags) so I would think that it would be ok legally, but I am not sure enough. What say you?

Also was thinking of would it be worth it? I like to shoot on crown land and this shotgun may become a truck gun of sorts used to grab for bear protection when scouting new hunting locations in bear country (not looking to start an argument on if this is a good shotgun for that so let’s not get side tracked lol). If I came up on the wrong cop or CO and I had a 10 rounder with me, even if just target shooting, I don’t know if I would want to risk the hunting with a magazine over 5 rounds in a semi or unlawful use of a firearm for hunting sort of deal. What do you all think?

For one if you are very worried I would keep a few copies of magazine limits printouts off rcmp websites in your truck and with the firearms. To be on the safe side I’d make sure to get some that are clearly marked for uzkon as46 pump shotgun like the lar mags are marked as pistol mags and in my opinion the 10-15rd uzkon mags I don’t see them for anything else but plinking and having fun you just don’t see guys going through the bush with a mag the size of their shotgun sticking out catching on everything and hunting regs is determined in your area.

Semi-automatic centerfire is limited to 5 rounds. If the Turkish semis and pumps come with the same magazine, I think they'd be considered dual use by RCMP. Whole thing is ridiculous.

I think it would not be legal. Looking at remington pump rifles theyre mags used in a semi must be pinned. Whereas pistol mags can hold 10 and designed for pistol. Turkish mags are designed for shotguns not pistols. Legal 10 rounds for pumps but if put in a semi its a 10 round mag designed for a shotgun. Semi auto shotguns must be plugged to 5.
I am no lawyer though. Just have a little bit of law and experience working in the courts

Not legal in a semi. Legal in a pump.... gotta love our convoluted gun laws.

If it was designed for the pump then it's legal in the semi. If it was designed for the semi then it better be pinned to 5 rounds. Sort of like using LAR mags in an AR rifle. It's not what it's used in, but what it was designed for.

That’s what I though right off the rcmp website

4. Magazines designed for one firearm but used in a different firearm

The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in. As a consequence, the maximum permitted capacity remains the same regardless of which firearm it might be used in.

The Turkish semi magazines and pump action magazines are slightly different. They often fit and work interchangeably but they are indeed slightly different. It's legal to use the pump mags in the semi, although not all of them function in every semi shotgun.

Frankly I find the 10 round mags to be pretty cumbersome and wouldn't bother with them except at a range or similar. I wouldn't want to carry a 10 round shotgun in the bush much.

If you are thinking 'bear protection', if you haven't done it in 5 shots, ten probably won't help you.

^^^ The truth.

Agreed, not only would they be awkward to walk through the bush with but ten rounds of 12g would be bloody heavy.

I'm not a fan of the mag fed shotguns in the bush period, but they are especially unwieldy with the 10 rounder in them.

As a truck gun in BC you're mostly fine, but you can always run into a CO who doesn't really understand magazine regulations.

Magazines are either prohibited or not by themselves, based on what they were manufactured for. Once they exist in a certain configuration, they can be used in ANYTHING that will accept them. Magazines are standalone devices that carry their own classifications. You can own a magazine and not own a firearm that it can be used in, and it can still be prohibited. It is legal unless a specific determination is made on that particular magazine.

The trick is to not make a big scene about it and bring it to the attention of those that would seek to make them prohibited if not pinned to 5.

Special Bulletin for Businesses No. 72. RCMP. Google it and quit asking and debating answers. It's all there in black and white.

Short answer. Yes, the 10 round "manual action" designed mags are "legal" in a semi autos.....

Depending on what you want them for, Aguila is making 12 ga. Minishells, about half as long as regular ones. At 1-3/4" they just about double your capacity. They're marketing them for 3-gun and other action shooting sports and self defence (what isn't, except maybe blanks?) I'd think in action shooting, the only problem might be too little mass to knock down steel targets.

In a tube fed gun they add capacity, the op is talking about a box mag so shells are stacked vertically.
