Been wondering about this. Is it legal to shoot geese or ducks when they're on the ground or in the water?

Haven't found anything in the regs, but I'm betting it would only be a single line so I could have missed it.

I'm thinking specifically about when geese are sitting in fields stuffing themselves on grain. It would be sn easy thing to put a rd to the head while they're waddling around, but I don't know if it's legal.

It would be an easy thing to put a whack of shotgun pellets to the head while they're waddling around, but I don't know if it's legal.

Fixed it! Hunting waterfowl with a rifle is a big no no. 'Swatting' waterfowl on the ground or in the water isn't the most braggable practice, but its legal. Just don't forget to buy your special permit from the local municipality AND get it signed etc etc etc if you plan on heading up the Saanich peninsula.

Hmmm, noticed that in the regs while I was waiting for a reply :p

Have the municipal bylaws here too. Any expected difficulties with getting the special permits?

..... Just a word of caution; If you decide to "whack-em " when they're on the water, it's not considered "sportsmanlike, and more importantly, the pellets can and do ricochet quite bit, and other Hunters definitely don't appreciate being hit with stray pellets ! ... David K

Permits should be nothing more than show up and pay your 20$. Just make sure you stay inside each municpality you have a permit for and note the PITA rules are different for each too. Good luck!
