Legality of cutting down a SR-22 barrel?

I have a Ruger SR-22 and I want to go with a 12.5" barrel with a threaded end for a muzzle break/flash hider... I was hoping to just buy one, but I don't see them listed on the Dlask site anymore. That got me thinking about getting my factory barrel cut and threaded. Is there any legal issues with that? It would still have the factory stock, so even in the fully retracted position it would still be over 27" long...
 
Yes, any barrel shorter than 18.5" MUST be purchased that way, dont ask me why. Any barrel cut down under 18.5" is prohib.

According to the Criminal Code, a prohibited firearm is:

a. firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,
is less than 660 mm in length, or
is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

In short, as it was pointed out, you can cut it down to 18", but not less.
 
OK thanks for the info.

Anyone know then if Dlask is going to be producing more short barrels anytime soon. I see the 16" and the 8" on their site but nothing else? Or another place I can get a 12" barrel in Canada?
 
High Caliber had the Dlask 12.5" in stock 'til very recently, I see it's now sold out.
Maybe check with Mystic Precision for other manufacturers barrels.
