Legality of pellet pistols exceeding 495fps

I'm confident you can "repair" the regulator to "bring it back down to 495fps" if you understand what I'm saying.

You know, that 5.7 Joules rule is horribly smashed by those DIY potato cannons... Can we hunt with a potato gun?

The only problem hunthing with a patato gun is you don't have the choice of the side dish !!!!

I could see hunting small game with potatoes, albeit immoral. Flying out of trees and whatnot, screaming. Would piss off a moose. A bear would probably eat them in flight, then you.

Wow didn't know airguns had gotten so complicated. I had several in my youth in the late 70's early 80's. Had a Crossman pump pistol that had a removable stock and optic. Was sweet! Could hit a dime from 25 yards. Had no idea of fps in those days or hunting regulations for a pellet gun. As a 10 year old I was a scourge of frogs, muskrat and birds. Now I just shoot paper.

And extra wrinkle is that if an air pistol exceeds the 500 FPS + 4.2 joule limits and has a barrel of less than 106 mm in length it would be a prohibited (12/6) firearm and if it wasn't registered prior to Feb. 14, 1995 you couldn't even legally possess it.

More brilliance from our elected officials. :bangHead:

Watch out as well for municipal regulations. Many classify anything that shoots as a firearm (including BBs, pellet guns, and sling shots) and therefore they are not allowed to be shot within city limits.

a sling shot that shoots faster than 500 fps is prohibited...pretty soon,, fork, spoon, and kitchen knife will be too,, we have very intelligent people running this government
