Legality Of Seaguls

Years ago my freinds used to go in this feild close to a dump and use a fishing rod, hook, drano, and bread and the rest of us would try and shoot them with pellet guns when they get hooked. Nothing like a good moveing target.

All that you do is bring them in with a crow call near some place with water, they come right in I guess they think the crows found food or something, they're pretty easy targets b/c they fly slow, you could probably even hit 'em in the air with a .22LR shooting subsonics........

Do all you guys like to kill things just for kicks? Do you all like to think up weird ways to kill things just for kicks? It is no ####ing wonder some people want to take away our guns. If you are a ####up and like to kill things for fun at least don't talk about it...............

those were the ways before we were allowed to use guns:p

When i was a kid in ireland i was told to throw a piece of carbide to them .When they swallow it, it gives off acetelyne gas when mixed with water. They then blow up in the air.I guess that helped pass a slow day in the shipyard.

Removing nuisance animals (ie Crows, groundhogs etc) is a service to landowners... and yes it is fun. Many landowners would like to see us remove gulls but unfortunately it is illegal.

Seagulls are actually very smart birds and rather good at math and ballistic calculations while flying, with the number of people i've seen get hit by gull crap riding on the ferry to the island it sure isnt just accidental.

............i get a kick at all the questions that have been on this site regarding various species and whether its legal to kill them. I swear there is alot of trigger happy morons that just want an excuse to kill animals.

.....................i live in acreage country by the Alberta foothills adjacent to the Alberta rocky mountains. We have lots of crows as well as ravens and i have yet to meet a landowner that was ever ravaged by such animals. Give me a break:rolleyes: I am all for controlling varmints and have taken the odd coyote as well as a wolf in the past but christ quit sounding like such idiots with the mandate that if it breathes or bleeds, we must find find out if its legal for us to kill it .

Get a grip guys! I've never heard of seagulls doing bugger all for damage. They do a great job of cleaning gopher guts off the highway. And they aren't dumb - seldom does one get hit by a vehicle.
If you need to kill something, kill some varmints, and however you do it, do it humanely!

It's no secret that some species are massively over-populated and should be culled, halas, it is illegal to do so. Considering the nuisance that they are, disease carrying potential (they are apparently worse than pigeons in some respects), as well as their agressive nature, I see no reason for them to be so protected. Then again I also believe that any non-native species should be declared varmint/fair game at the federal level and should be killed at any occasion, without the benefit of a "season". I don't know the English name for it, but take the "moineau domestique", a European import, it has effectively single handedly brought native species (such as the "Merle bleu")to the brink of extinction thanks to it's agressive nature and fast reproductive rate. At least one species of "seagull" has shown the same type of behavior pattern, essentially competing with native species for food and territory to such an extent that the other species find themselves at an extreme disadvantage.

Seagulls are not migratory.
They most certainly are, although in some regions the popualtions seem to stay year round. Herring Gulls and Ring-billed Gulls are the most common seen year round here in the east but the ones we see in the winter usually have migrated from much further north. ;)

I'll bet you are great fun with a couple of beers in ya:rolleyes:

Just stories Pancho, just stories........... no one here would ever do that.:p

No need to get so upset.

Thanks Icq, if anything the feds should draw a list of such "introduced species" and declare them fair game (year round, no bag limit, the goal is eradication, or at least severe population control here), that would sure do wonders for those native species that are currently fighting for their existance because of these pests.

Um..., not sure where you guys are going with this. Gulls are very common these days but do not do any severe damage or even noticable damage to our crops or the ecosystem. They really don't. Crows are a bit worse, magpies are teh suck!, but the worst are the little pricks on the ground - groundhogs, mice, rats, moles, gophers, and especially raccoons.
Nevermind the gulls, let's get the rodents!
