Legalize suppressors thread!!! Please move to general discussion

not to begin an argument with what is more important, but this has merit, is void of emotions and is considered a safety concern. I hate the resgistry, mags limits and the lack of ccw. If you dont think this is important or winable fight, fine dont support it. Concentrate your efforts on fighting towards equally important goals stated above. begin your own thread for them in fact. But please dont try and dissmiss the credibility of this argument it only fuels the anti's..

I'm totally up for suppressors and silencers. I find the .223 pretty loud even when used outdoors.

Even if Canada legalizes them.... it's like $1000 for one..... a good one if I can recall.

I wouldn't want to push too hard on this issue though, what if they decided that all the arguments we put forward are grounds to make suppressors mandatory?

I could see them making them mandatory in some geographical locations like ranges near urban areas, etc. - but I doubt they would ever do so for guys off in the woods hunting in the middle of nowhere.

+1

I agree we should start this movement because we really have no options anymore, may as well go for it...

I think the main question is, HOW do we carry this forward? I do believe law-abiding citizens should own whatever they want and even decide to go Rambo on the range with an M60 if they wanted.....

thats what i'm looking for, input on the steps to take, anyone know the process? Pettitions? letter writing? groups who are already pushing for this issue to be considered?

I know just outside of gravenhurst they wanted to open a range but couldn't because of the noise or people didn't agree with it? We live in the bush people:| Do suppressors really cost $1000. That costs more then my cz 858?! Iam still up for making them legal.

FIRST STEP

Ensure Prime Minister Harper and The Conservative Party Win a Majority Government.

Do what you can to promote this party.
Throw up a lawn sign

Heckle the Liberal candidate in your riding
Ask him why during the 11 years of Liberal Majority government before Harper they did nothing for our economy, crime or healthcare. Why would we believe they would do anything now?

What do we do when they make it mandatory to add suppressors to Milsurp No4's and K98's? That's all fine and great for AR15's and pistols with threaded barrels, but what about the other 90% of pistols/rifles out there?

Not to mention that some suppressors wear out very quickly, you may have to replace them yearly depending on how many rounds you average per year.

I'm just afraid that the only way to actually do this is actually using suppressors at the range. It's almost like how marijuana is illegal but people don't care anymore because so many people already do it.......... I know as firearm owners will get SERIOUS legal issues if we all tried it.

Vote Conservative and talk to your local MLA?

It's easy...

1. Collect real data on suppressors(make a list)
2. Video presentation showing the real difference. Show how easy it is to make suppressors and why banning them from legal purchase is futile and stupid.
3. Make them restricted or a separate license, whatever will fly.
4. Draft legal legislation.(Don't use the word "Silencers" anywhere")
5. Only get Suppressor drafted for 556 caliber rifles and up, no 22lr( I think that would be a mistake and asking for too much).
6. Possible for Pistols calibers of 9mm and up as well, this may be a no fly zone unfortunately.
7. Keep the restricted or a separate lic.

Conclusion

Don't dumb down the debate is the most important step. The video must be detailed and well presented, also it must be very truthful and educational.Get some basic suppressors out there, we may not be able to set the legislation for the suppressor that might come out in production in the future, but most if not all of them out there today should be approved by a rational presentation of there true capabilities and not "Hollywood's fantasy land".

Above all we never seem to have people debating for us that know how to win the media over, this actually easy. This is why i deeply question our gun groups out there.

I would really like a suppressor on my 204 ruger.

I don't see a point it limiting the caliber they are used on.

Also we should push for suppressors with out a tax stamp or making them restricted if we can. I want to use them for hunting. Not at a range.

Very true, I have read that it's $200 in the US for the tax stamp. Now we gotta collect data. I'm going to talk to my shooting club president if there is anything we can do to lobby for "suppressors".

Go for what you can get and ask for more at first, chances are you are getting nothing, keep that in mind. As for staying away from the smaller calibers, like 22LR which i have but never shoot or barely ever do, they are already making little noise, the bigger calibers make a lot more noise but putting a suppressor on them, they are still very loud.

We should aim for some Suppressor if we get more than that, well consider that a big victory.

So your saying we should give up on suppressors on rim fires and small bores because you do not shoot them?

Although I would love one for my xcr, I would rather have the fn stupid mag restrictions abolished. Can we do both at the same time???

the issue i see with restricting it to only certain calibers we loose the justification of it as a safety concern to prevent hearing loss, again not pushing for it as requirment, but an option to canadian firearms owners for additional protection, also a common curdiousy to the general public to reduce noise pollution for surrounding those living near ranges and popular shooting areas. Keep the comment coming people!

I'm wih jag. My xcr needs normal cap mags, and it NEEDS a suppressor so we could hear eachother saying how awesome xcr's are with normal cap mags and suppressors. I NEED one because those damn coyotes don't seem to come out after my boredom causes me to shoot at stumps while I wait for them. (ok Im just kidding, I know they are far from silent)
