I'm a machinist, working right now on repairing some equipment, for home use. Mill, grinder, etc.
I also enjoy shooting, I'm thinking about combining my work and play.
So, before I get into, trying to find out materials, and finer workings of firearms; I thought I might ask what are the laws and other issues, involved in making a firearm. If anyone has info. for Ontario specifically, that would be great, but any info would be greatly appericated.

I believe you can make your own unrestricted gun but you have to register it when the receiver is complete and of course update once the barrel is installed. If you make the gun for sale you would require a manufacturing license which I think runs around $1000. I would suggest checking the books by Frank de Haas; he has one giving designs for a single shot rifle called a vault lock aimed specifically for the home shop machinist.

if u build a flint lock rifle, it's exempt from any paper work

don't quote me but I been told that making your own firearm is non-event as long as you declare your intentions before you start making it. There is something about design to be looked at in terms of functionality - no full auto or anything as silly. Its what I been told by gunsmith who does some work for me. I am machining for the fun of it and was wondering about the same thing.

I built my own restricted (Semi auto close bolt STEN) and have the original frame/receiver cert, and the replacement cert for the completed firearm.
