I have heard all the rumours of if you put your adress from p.g or where ever you live in the interior you will most likely get it for reasons of tourism, or some crap so i made this poll to find out if its a bluff or not.

It's a random draw. Location has nothing to do with it. Neither does the colour of the ink you use to fill in the card, enclosing a piece of tinfoil in the envelope or any of the other BS schemes I've heard over the years.

Well, for us in the Lower Mainland, everything is "out of town".

It would be nice if they brought back the Region 2 Antlerless Mule/Blacktail deer. I never heard why that was cancelled - does anyone know?

Alberta's priority system...while plaqued with a couple small bugs, is by far the best LEH-style system that I've ever seen. It sure alllows for a lot more planning and seems to be the fairest system there is for giving out these limited tags.

The Alberta system works in Alberta because more tags are distributed among fewer hunters. In BC the preference system simply would not work for most species as the wait between tags would be see most guys dieing of old age before they got their tag. For example when the odds on a draw are 40-50 to one that would translate to a 40 or 50 year wait for a tag. Most guys would just as soon as try to win one on a lottery system.

Additionally in BC the LEH tags should be looked at as a "bonus" as every year there is a general open season for all big game - with the exceptions of bison and G-bears - somewhere in the province. A hunter does not NEED a LEH to have a very successful season here.

Actually, if you look at the Alberta system......on the draws with long odds like you've described....we have a no priority draw so it is totally random. On others where the odds make it practical to draw a tag in 10 years or less, then we have the priority system. It's kind of the best of both worlds I think.

We too have an open season for ever species except moose and goats so there is no lack of general tag opportunity but with the areas on draw, hunter numbers are managed in higher hunter population areas, ensuring a quality hunt with many species being managed for their maximum trophy potential. I don't mind waiting a few years in one area to have the chance to kill some big horns while I can still hunt other areas on a general tag on the off years.

That is pretty well what I said. The only draw that could go to priority in BC with less than a 10 year wait would be whitetail and mule deer does. And even then there is no good reason that does in BC could not go back to a general open season like they historically have been.

Someone on HuntingBC mentioned a one draw per year idea. The high demand hunts (sheep, elk, moose) could be drawn first. If you get a draw, the rest of your entries are skipped for the remainder of the draw. If there are tags available at the end of the draw then the process could start over again. That way you could ensure that a larger portion of hunters get at least 1 draw.

I got mine out of town. And I always get my moose up north(so far any way).
I have only put in for LEH the last two years and I got both tags both years.
Moose and Grizzly

Works for me.

Doe this year.

Elk, moose and doe last year.

Doe the year before.

No draw in 2005, 2004, 2003 though. Tagged along on other guys trips though and there's lots of general open seasons in BC anyway.

I actually got skunked this year, but it is absolutely no worries, since general season will provide. I have really been "lucky" over the years. The LEH system got started in 1980, and I have been skunked only two years total. I put in 5 or 6 tags each year, and usually draw something. Regards, Eagleye.

See, that's the kind of thing that has me scratching my head. I don't really put in for very bad odd hunts (except sheep a few times), yet I've only ever gotten 3 draws in 20+ years. Two were draws where there were more tags than applicants, so I've actually only ever been drawn once!

I just get so worked up about my bad luck in the draws. I'll shut up now.:(
