For what it's worth Leica has been talking for a few years about building rifle scopes and last year they suggested that they might introduce them at this years Shot Show...well that didn't happen and they now suggest that maybe next Shot Show. A few years ago Leica and Leupold had an arrangement where Leica would build Binos for Leupold and Leupold built scopes for Leica. That was a short lived arrangement and before my time in the business. The rifle scopes proposed are supposed to be manufactured by Leica. Time will tell. Phil.

That will be interesting - although Leica has also got the "branding" bug - putting their name on products built by other companies (eg Minolta, Leupold, Panasonic)...wonder if this will really be an "in-house" effort or a tarted up product from another manufacturer...personally I hate being a victim of this sort of marketing ... I always feel stupid and taken advantage of...particularly when I have been real gullible and paid a premium for the name.
Incidentally - Leitz/Leica under whatever name they use now...did develop and build the Elcan ( E. Leitz Canada) scopes which have always been terrific optically... no question they make a superior optical product ... when they want to..
