So I took my new SKS in tapco stock to the range today for the first time. So many failures to feed it wasnt even funny. I was shooting barnaul 123gr HP. Second problem was when it would fire I couldnt get it to zero for the life of me, until I realized that the front post was in there so loose that it was literally turning itself down from the vibration of the shoots. Maybe try different ammo? Not sure what to do about the front post. POS.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe it is a lemon, but that front post sound way off. Pics? Also, as for the ammo, you want an ammo with hard primers, to prevent slam fires. Since you had none of those, it should not be a problem.

1) Mag follower is likely impeding regular feeding. Common issue.

2) Tighten the site post.

Seems rather simple actually.

Try to shoot your SKS in an original configuration, see how it performs...As for the front post... If it's so loose, use some Low Strength thread locker to hold it in place. This is what I would've done

Are you using Tapco mags ? you may need to file around certain areas on the mag to make it fit nice and loose in the magwell. Should be able to drop free when you pull the release...as for front sight ? no ideas, mine came sighted in and doesnt move. If you're using the standard mag, take it back to the range and use it in the wood stock and go from there. You may need to file or dremel the inside of the tapco stock if it is binding anywhere.

I hear the sks original mag has legendary reliability... the aftermarket mags, ugh, not so much.

I have had my detachable mags out three times ( still new 1 year into the sport ) in my sks, have Romanion surplus and have had no FTF's. The tapco's etc. do require a little fitting and shaving to work properly. First time i tried to get the detachable into my ATI stock, i have to mash it in, see where the plastic rubbed. Grabbed the dremel and file and went to work about 5 min on each mag, they all work fine. It depends on your rifle and your ability to problem solve.

Example. just installed a magwedge rail on my sks. watch the only vid on youtube i can find and the bloody guy is using two screwdrivers and scratching up the front site. I looked at it and went ( HELLO, block of wood in left hand, depress spring, pull front site with right hand = removed without scratching.....good problem solving :p I wish you luck brother

Remove you front post and find a large flat tip screw driver. Push it into the slot on the base of the sight post, bending it outwards slightly.

THIS WORKED! Thanks alot man! Now to go to work on the Tapco mag, it doesnt drop free when I hit the release so thats probably the issue. Thanks to all that responded.
