Hi Folks.Anyone have a novel idea other the welding, of making the metal folding stock on the 858 longer.I find the length of pull too short on this stock.Already have one with the Rauch /M4 stock but would like to use the folder that came with my second rifle. I guess I could always carve something up and glue or strap it on. Just looking for some ideas. Thanks

maybe a wood block, drill 2 holes in the buttplate and use wood screws to secure it, sand to fit the buttplate snugly and add a recoil pad to the back. paint er up and away you go

Good idea.I just went scrounging in my box of old recoil pads and found a couple that I might be able to use as a spacer.I taped them on with electrical tape for now just to try them out for length of pull.Adding that extra inch sure makes a difference for me.Farther back on the inclined stock for better sight alignment.

SKSman has some available:

The first one is for folding stock and might work well for you, the opening is 10 cm x 2.6 cm, the Dragunov is a slip on, also available for ATI SKS Dragunov stock which slips over almost anything.

Works great on the folding stock version's.

I know this isn't going to be the most popular opinion but, change your shooting stance. Square your body up more and lean into the gun a bit. I used to use a more relaxed stance but as I started to get on top of the gun more my shooting got better. Especially controlled pairs, turreting etc. The factory length is actually pretty good if not a bit long now for me. Keep in mind I'm a 6'2" gangly bastard.

I'm a 6 ft 5 gangly bastard hence the problem.Length of pull and nose in the bolt cover. That was the reason I bought your 4 position stock adapter for my first CZ 858 (plus the rear peep aperture, got to get another).

if you end up using an old rubber butpad and need to reduce the size put it in the freezer for a while before you sand it down with 40 to 80grit, then freezer it again and use progressivly smoother sandpaper, ive done one like this with good results, and buggered up one (cosmetically) when i didnt freeze it
patience and a heat gun on med setting will take care of the rough stuff after this making it look like it was made for your stock

Well that is the beauty of the collapsing stock, I typically like mine shorter then factory. :D

This IS the answer! I don't "crawl / creep" the stock & the original length of the factory folder is not a problem on my CZ 858. I apply the same shooting form to my Russian SKS & it's shorter length of pull isn't an issue either.

Thanks for the input guys. So any sites to show what you guys are doing?Or do I just stand square to the target, right arm up in the air and let it rip. Gonna do some looking this am

:agree:
And properly use your sling. It's not there just for looks or to make it easier to carry. I generaly wrap it once around my forearm and cup it between the lower hand gaurd and my hand & pull it back tell it's nice and tight. Also try dry firing to get the flinch out.

That applies to longer range off-hand work but it's not something you want to do for action-type shooting, especially at closer ranges.

Not to mention, it's impossible with a single-point sling.

Man,old habits are hard to break.I tried the Standing Square to the Target stance and it makes a big difference.Just have to try and reprogram the mind and right chicken wing. Thanks Satain for the sling info, been doing that for years. Stevo any places you know on the web for more advice? Tried youtube this am but so many different ways portrayed you end up loosing focus and take a side trip.

I agree that a more agressive stance will help, but some shooters just don't feel right with this short folder. The buttpad is very bulky (I have one) and sanding it down can help some. I suggest you take your folder to a machine shop, have them cut it, weld in a couple inches of steel stock and grind it back to shape. Maybe they can do it cheaply if a worker makes it an after-hours project. Touch it up with spray paint later.

In sports we customize gear to fit us, whether it be snow skis, baseball bats or skateboards. Why should your weapons platform be any different?
