Lengthening chamber on Winchester 101?

Hey folks,

I have a Winchester 400 (for all intents and purposes, a 101) and I was wondering about having the chambers lengthened to 3". I know Winchester built the 101 with 3" chambers, so I don't foresee there being any problems with the action being strong enough. Or if they see a potential problem with this that I don't? I know I don't need a 3" chamber, but it would be nice to have.

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a 'smith in Canada that could do this job?

Thank you,

Cory

not a good idea.

The 101 was (always?) made with chrome-lined chambers and bores. If you try and ream the chambers, two things will happen:

1) The chrome plating will dull the reamer prematurely.
2) You will flake the chrome lining and it will start to flake/peel from the throat toward the muzzle. Not good.
