Received news late yesterday afternoon that Leon has been acquitted of all charges...it is easy to say now but it is something I been saying from day one...Leon and Rob were NEVER guilty..

YEAH!!!! Good for Leon.

I knew he and Rob were never guilty of anything too.

Hope he decides to come back and shoot with us. I've missed his "Leonisms". "You got hooped Man.." :)

Leon and Rob were the guys who ran United Sport Shooting Ranges in Toronto. At the time, probably the biggest handgun dealers in the country. They were distributors for CZ, Para and SVI, CR Speed and more.

The OPP's "elite" firearms unit wasn't too successful in accomplishing their task of getting guns out of the hands of the gangs, so they decided to raid USSR and arrest the guys - (SWAT Teams at their houses and everything) 4 years ago and put them through hell. It would seem the criminal end of this is finally at an end, but I'm sure civil legalities will wage on for years to come.

One of the conditions laid on them after the arrest was that they had to stay away from the firearms industry and sport, so their friends couldn't even talk with them.

Rob and Leon were both high ranking IPSC competitors and huge supporters of the sport. Rob's come back to shooting this past summer and it's nice to see him on the range again. I hope Leon gets out too, now that he can.

The whole thing stunk on ice.

Didn't the OPP spend an outrageous amount of money on the operation? If my faulty memory serves it was between $2-6 million, all for one conviction and a lot of co-lateral damage.

Time for some letters of support to the papers for Rob & Leon and to point out the failure and vindictiveness of the OPP.

Was approximately $7 million. Take down day and bail sessions (7 days) cost over $1 million. Preliminary enquiry was 68 days. Pre-Trial (after committal) was 12 days. Trial was 65 days.

Leon and Rob spent $700,000.

Should have just tazered us to death, eh?

Our law suit will be registered soon.... and no, we have no desire to get back into the business.

Thanks to the few who believed in us. As Sean said, I am back into IPSC and if I have my way, and I usually do, I will have Leon back very soon.

WHYLOOK (Rob)

Strange how it made front page news when it happen but not a whimper out of the press now.

Calling the cops incompetant, bungling idiots doesn't serve the press well. They make their money scaring citizens (sells papers) with sensationalized stories. How do you tell the public that the largest gun bust in Canadian history was a fraud and that they instead merely ruined the lives of honest tax paying, police supporting citizens? You can't. The results of yesterday's decision got 2 lines of mention for Leon's acquital and 1/2 page about Retired RCMP Officer David Kift found guilty.

How do you sell more papers? Just metion anyone connected with RCMP screwing up.

WHYLOOK (Rob)

I remember some members here on this forum talking a lot of #### when USSR got raided. At least now they will know to STFU until they know the full story next time.

Its too bad USSR isn't coming back into business.

"Its too bad USSR isn't coming back into business"

As far as the twits in the OPP are concerned "Mission Accomplished"!

I wouldn't move back to the Province for love nor money. I hope they start a fund to help with the legal bills for the civil lawsuit. The lawsuit will make the headlines I hope.

Take Care

Bob

Gald to see it panned out for you both, this things stunk from the onset, it was rediculous how the Law treated you like idiots, I hope they get everything you guys bring on them. This is the type of crap that makes a lot of shooters who are pro police, very anit-police. It amazes me how the Law treats us. Gald it all worked out for.

I had the chance to talk with Leon during the service after Mike Yaciuk's funeral. I hope the stories he shared with us that afternoon make it to print some day.

Whylook,

Had no idea you were that Rob! You guys were a big help with purchasing my first Para-Ord way back when. I was shocked when I learned about the big "raid" and the rest of the crap that followed. Sure seemed out of character for you guys at the time, so I took everything with a large dose of salts. Glad to see that my first impression was the right one. Can't tell you how sorry I am that you guys ended up being victimized by the system. Hopefully your civil suit will be settled quickly and you guys can recoup your defense costs and lost revenue/potential future earnings from the business quickly.

:)Thanks X-man. It is nice to be well-remembered. We are also hopeful that the courts will make the law enforcement agencies accountable for their actions. We have an aweful lot to recover but I don't think that there can be enough paid for 7 days in jail, 4 1/2 years of stress and all the costs and opportunity costs lost.
Best Regards,
Rob.
