Hi guys,
I found a really good condition used Mark 4 scope for sale that I'm thinking of buying. It's a 3.5-10x40. The only thing is that I have heard that there are a lot of fake leopold Mark 4s out there (chinese made). I'm not sure if this is true or so, but the scope does have printed on the scope "Leopold Mark 4 3.5-10x40 M1 8888SC".
Does anyone have any experience with these scopes? Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated on how they preform.

In the past I have called Leupold (USA) with the serial number to confirm if it matches the model and type of scope I was buying. Doesn't mean that the copies done have the SN copied as well, but that would make a bunch of scopes with the same SN and possibly raise a flag with Leupold.

I called the 1-800-Leopold number and the scope is a cheap chinese version. Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a scope of similar 3.5-10 power since the price of a new Mark 4 is not an option for me.
 
determine your absolute price limit, then the experts can tell you what brands fall within it. You are in luck that these are the salad days of good/great optics at reasonable prices.

also, dont be afraid to check out the EE section for optics, lotsa deals there with people upgrading to higher end scopes.

The serial no makes me think it's a fake.

A fake is easy to spot, if it has white lettering on it around the ring at the front on the scope or any white writing on it, it's a fake. Same old rule applies if it seems to go to be true it probably is. Real mark 4's are all black even the writing on them

What's your budget? Better to save more and buy better than to cheap out. You'll be happier in the end.

The Vortex Viper series is pretty decent for the money.

I also have a 5.5-25x50 Falcon Menace on the EE right now, if that is something you might be interested in. ;)
