Leopold Rings Screw Size

Stripped the Hex head on one of my 1980s vintage Leopold scope ring screws.

Can anyone tell me what size it is and where to find a replacement?

Take it to any shop that sells and mounts scopes, and either they will have some to sell you, or they will hand you a tray containing about a thousand different screws they have accumulated, and will tell you to sort out the ones that you can use.

Like as not, they are a finer thread pitch than the usual hardware store variety screws, so you are pretty much stuck dealing with firearms related sources.

Talk nice to Leupold on the phone and they might just slip a couple into the mail.

The screw measures as follows:

HEX key measures 0.096" across the flats

Screw head 0.168" dia
Threaded portion 0.121" dia
OAL 0.454" including head.

Can anyone tell me what designation it is 6-48, 8-40, ?

Should be 6 X 48 TPI on that vintage of ring. If you can get a few of the newer Torx style heads they will serve you better. David.

0.125" is a #5

#6 is roughly 0.138"
#8 is roughly 0.164"
