I've been trying to discern if the cost of a Patternmaster ($100 US) is really worth it.
Instead, I purchased on-line an improved modified choke from Colonial Arms. ($28.50 US) The Golden Clays model.
Anyone have any experience with either/or choke??
My intended use will be for larger shot for predators and I purchased another different modified choke rated for steel shot use only.
It was only after this purchase that I discovered Carlson chokes website.

A Patternmaster Choke is not a Constriction type choke; they work by controlling the wad and release of shot...more R&D and more detailed machining involved hence the price difference...bought a new Code Black Goose Choke but haven't even patterned it yet so can't comment on performance.

I have had great luck with Kick's and Carlson chokes which usually run about half the price of a Patternmaster though.

I went through the high dollar choke phase and in the end for me determined that there is nothing I am going to miss with a briley IM for my steel reloads or factory chokes for buckshot that another choke would have taken.
To me money is better spent on the clay shooting and becomming a better shot. Easy I guess for me to say shooting high speed duplex 10ga reloads for waterfowl and no.4 buck in 10ga for coyotes.

Wow.....teh gauge huh? Must be easy to find your blind during the season. In Southern Saskatchewan the 10s sounded pretty distinct compared to the 12s. Freaking anti-aircraft gun!
Amongst the more learned shooters, the IM has come up more than once on internet discussions from avid bird hunters. That's the one I chose after some thought.

Thanks guys!
