I was out on Saturday morning for partridge and was hunting in my favorite spot where I have already taken several this year. I was casually walking along and one flies out a tree in front of me. I didn't get a shot at him so I walked up to the tree he was in to see if I could see where he went. Just as I get to the tree another flies out, then another, then another, and I didn't get a shot at one of them. So I walked back out to the truck swearing and kicking myself.

I came back that afternoon determined to make up for it. I carefully walked through the area, and when I came up on the spot where I had missed the 4 earlier I took even more care. I spotted one in the apple tree next to the tree they were in that morning, and nailed him. Then instead of running up to collect him I watched and waited. Sure enough the other three were in that tree with him, and I managed to get 3 out of the 4 that fooled me that morning. Revenge is sweet.

awesome!! the same happened to my brother in-law and I a couple weeks ago; but they were having none of it on the 2nd outing. i never thought i would get into it much, but now i dream of going back up north to try again.

I noticed the same thing while deer scouting last weekend. I didn't have my .410 with me as I was just scouting but I saw one walking down a log, he took off and then two more came out of there after him. I don't hunt them often so I didn't know that they hang out in groups. Definitely valuable information the next time I am out with the .410.

Yes, always pays to keep looking after the shot. If a spot is good ground for game birds, it's likely that more than one of them knows it. Nice to see you brought home some tasty dinner too!
