I'm looking at doing the same SP1 build but in a lefty format.
Just don't k ow where to start to find the triangle handguard and A1 grip etc.... yet

I picked most of the parts for mine up off EE over the span of a year. Took some time but it’s finally done!

Does it really count as retro if it came out of the factory like this 50 years ago?

Made in 1968, imported by dad in 1974

Brownells has their new retro furniture, including triangle handguards, A1 grips and D-type buttstocks.

Ar-10 ca?

Yep - it's a 12(3) Safe Queen. A real shame too, as it is a phenomenal shooter. Had the AR10 been just a few years earlier along in its development, things might have turned out very differently for the new system in terms of both European (eg. Holland & ??) and African service (eg. South Africa & Rhodesia). This would have had serious implications for the M14 and the FN FAL....

So then question of the day. How many NR AR-10 are there in the country because there is a FRT for one?

That is a long-standing question within the "Classic" AR10 Collecting Community. There is presumably at least one NR unicorn floating around out there somewhere. It would of course, be missing the extra pin above the Change Lever.....

Very nice, Your SP1 is gorgeous!

There was one ordered to be NR by a judge, and some of the salesman samples were built as semi only. Truly hen's teeth. There is also at least one that I've seen that the owner misregistered when we had a long gun registry. I've heard that the KLM guns were semi only, but I've also heard that they weren't.

Wow, I'm impressed. Very nice collection.

Did you import this from a US retailer, or which Canadian retailer had these? Interested in one of these myself.

It was a Canadian Retailer (Rampart), however the RCMP had them cease importation and sales of the Commemorative Carbines due to the markings. Mine was the only XM177 that made it into the "wild" before the RCMP killed the buzz, although there may be a couple more registered to members of the Rampart staff. I also know of a single GAU-5/5 that made it through the Registry before the ban was put in place.

It is a real shame that the "Anti-Fun Police" put the kibosh on the Troy Commemoratives, as they are by far the closest thing you will find to a historically-correct XM or GAU on the world market. Aside from the barrel length (12.5" vice 11.5" due to US law), the Rivet in the Front Sling Swivel, and the modern Ejection Port Cover, they are perfect reproductions for $1200 USD or $1600 CAD. The Barrel length, Swivel Rivet and Port Door are all easily remedied, as I have done to mine for a nominal expense. All in, my XM177E2 it cost me less than $2K including the new barrel. I highly doubt that I could have sourced all of the correct parts for a XM retro build for the same money. I definitely would have had a hard time coming up with all of the repro literature and accessories that came with the XM177E2 carbine....
