Leta talk abouts brasing/welding shotgun bbl lugs

Just so and this thread does, not go off the railes
we have a massive project of revamping the MCS project.
As the manufacturing of new 870 short bbls is a big job .
One of the ideas is relocating the lug on factory 14 and 18 inch guns.

While you are brazing can you do up some barrels with the unique MCS front sight?

Back in the day Bar-sto (of pistol barrel fame) made a heavy wall 870 rem replacement barrel.

They might be a source of information/knowledge for you

Manufacturing under the law? Apparently if a person with a PAL makes a single one-off personal non-restricted firearm, that is now "manufacturing" and a firearms business license with a manufacturing endorsement is required.

I would suspect that if finished 870 barrels had their lugs relocated, and overall length shortened to less than 18", any firearm with one of these barrels installed would become a prohibited firearm, because a finished barrel was cut down. Best to start from scratch.
To the best of my knowledge making/manufacturing/creating gun barrels is not an activity that requires a license.
Since when? Not trying to be a PITA, looking for up to date info.

Because when C-68 came in to force, most of the 'manufacturing' references were determined to be about people who were pursuing a profit margin, by making guns or gun parts. People taking their own time, and making parts or even whole guns, were being dealt with on the essentially same basis as the American side, which is to say, if you were qualified to Own it, you could make it, and if it needed to be Registered, you had a 30 days grace from the point "it became a firearm", in order to do so.

Come up with some current points of reference, from the Gazetted points of law, please.

There has been no change in the law. There has been a change in the interpretation of the law with respect to "manufacture".
Obviously if someone with a PAL were to make an obviously non-restricted firearm, who would be the wiser?
Call the CFP and inquire about the procedure to follow if making and registering a one-off personal restricted firearm.

That’s why I was asking. If Simon needs to re-solder on 50 barrel lugs.

(the only reason I can think of is he wants to do a run of shortty shotguns)

OP post says relocate/moving the lugs and re-affixing. Why would anyone do this unless you’re building a MCS or shorter clone. (Buyers would want the sub <12” barrel).

I can’t see a market for factory barrels =>14” on the mcs and clones all ready on the market. Idk maybe I’m just stupid.

Starting a barrel from scratch is more involved (and what I thought he’d need to do to make something for customers to legally use)
I thought maybe he had found a batch of Field Master actions. Late post as he has already explained his purpose in a later post.

The field master is just the new/replacement express.

The special field was a sporting 870 with a shorter mag tube and corresponding barrel. Has the English straight grip butt if people are looking for em
