So I have a Remington R1. The stock magazines are garbage. I bought a used Chip McCormick Shooting Star and it works great. I need a couple more.

What other brands are good quality? How are the E-Lander mags? I like the price on Wolverine but are they any good?

Hhahahaa........my most reliable magazines came in a brown paper wrapper and were LNIB surplused by Uncle Sam.

Yes sir, seven round mags, GI surplus. I purchased my 1991A1 second hand.

PS: The absolute worst were Ram Line 10 rounders, followed by the original Colt seven round mags that came with the gun.(exactly how old is the important question I guess) And very sadly, I even had the occassional jam with 8 rounders from Wilson. I am hoping it was a poorer reload and therefore my fault. But the jury is out until I have a solid confirmation using good factory ammo.

feck on the last one......

Half a dozen of Chip McCormick Power mag 10 shots find their way to my house, the original 3 mags from Les Baer 8 rounds are flawless to, when my R1 ( grandkids will learn on this one) get here i will use it with some CM mags... JP.

Factory Colt 1911 .45ACP 7 and 8 rounders
Chip McCormick Power 10's and Power 8's
Chip McCormick Shooting Star 8 rounders
Wilson Combat 47D 8 rounders

The only 1911 magazines Ive ever used....never a single problem in the 5 Colts and 3 Springfields Ive owned. But I love using factory Colt 7 round in my current Colt 1991 Government .45. Lots of room for spring compression when fully charged and seated with slide closed. Shooting Star 8 rounders fully charged get a little tight when seated with slide clothed, but still never a problem.

Factory Colt 1911 .45 ACP 7-round magazines I favor, but if I owned a tactical 1911 like a Springfield TRP, Les Baer SRP, or Wilson CQB....I would most likely be using Wilson Combat 47D stainless 8-round magazines with removable black polymere base for easy cleaning and maintenance.

Good luck ;)

Wilson Combat and Chip McCormick mags for me. They run like a champ. I also have some ACT mags and Sig ones (not sure who makes 'em for Sig). Good thing I didn't buy any of the Remington ones. They sent me a 40% off deal on their online store and saw those 1911 mags.

I use Tripps and Wilsons extensively.......and VERY often......no issues.
I keep brand new sets as measurement references for when the regularly used mags get beat up due to practice. I keep another full set for lvl 3 matches......hmm.......no wonder I have 3 dozen mags for each of my 1911's........

With MY set up, I use:

Les Baer 45 - > Wilson ETM's w DP basepads
STI custom 45 - > Tripp w DP basepads
STI custom 9mm - > Tripp w DP, and Wilson ETM's (find Wilsons very dependant upon mag release hold height).
STI USPSA 9mm - >Tripp w DP
SVI 45 & 9mm conversion tuned to Wilson ETM's for both calibres.

I used CMC Power Mags and were fine with the LB but my STI 45's didnt like the feed angle presented (again, much to do with the mag release).

All are fine but some may require a little tuning if you are running non OEM applications in your 1911's.

I had some followers wear prematurely on a couple of Wilson Combat magazines. Others I have are still fine. Swapped those two with a couple Chip McCormick 10 rounders. They're really nice. I have a few of them and one or two (not sure yet) have a problem with FTF. The WC magazines didn't lock open so I'm not 100% sure what is going on. When the FTF happens, it's the first round and it gets jammed up so much it is shorter and needs to be discarded.

Not a bash against either of these magazines. They both work better than the crap that came with my SIG Scorpion. They wouldn't hold open right from the get go. I think the current problem with the C McC. mags is something I can work out when I get some time. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more.

Week mag spring cause most of the feeding problems for many calibers of pistols.
If the last round or two is not held firmly enough in place, recoil will knock them loose with the result of rounds standing up or pointing down in mag.
Can also cause slide not locking up at last shot.
I have mostly shooting star mags, with 1 orriginal and 1 chip Macormack mag and swapped out all the springs several years ago with "Wolf" springs from Brownellles and never had an issue since.
For action shooting where you will be dropping mags with rounds still in the mag on concrete floors, i highly recommend some kind of base pad.
Softer the better or you may finding yourself searching for your mag and all its parts all over the floor.
