then others say its best for all to apply as single..

We are not in a guaranteed tag area, there is no majig group number.
We apply in small groups, and as individuals as well. So far we've never drawn more than one adult tag per year. Been skunked a few times though.

You are better served to apply as a group in WMU's that have large number guaranteed group size.
The tags are drawn for the Guaranteed Group size applications first... then the individual Pool One Tags are drawn for the remaining tags.
I don't understand what the question is... if you understand the system there is no mystery!

What?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Are you serious!?! this is not a debate if you apply by yourself you go into the lottery. When was the last time you won the lottery? OR you can go into a Guaranteed group size and actully get a tag. this is really not a debate.

every one exept the one person out of the group who gets the tag goes back into pool one so it really really a not a debate

Even if there is no Guaranteed Group Number in your area, they still draw group tags first. If you don't get a group tag, then you go into the individual draw. If you are a Northern Resident, and didn't draw a tag from the first 2 draws, then you go into the Northern Draw.

Always put in at least a group of 2 people, gets you into the first draw. If you don't you go straight into the Individual draw. 78% of the tags go to groups, 17% to individuals, 5% to Northern Residents.

If your area has no guarantee number, and you have like 8 hunters, put in 4 groups of 2, gets you more chances.

well yes as a matter of fact im serious...the reason i asked this..
is because i know of a group that hunts in the area that we do..they have a few extra guys that go over the guaranteed limit..and one of them extra guys got pick for tags two years in a row going single..
so you tell me ole wise white hunter:rolleyes:

If you have a guaranteed number, everyone in pool 1 should put in for that group, to avoid that situation.

There is no advantage at all in putting in as an individual, unless you're trying to get more than 1 tag. Even then, if you have your guaranteed number the remaining guys should put in in groups of 2.

If you have no guarantee number, always put in multiple small groups.

Are you sure? Read the regs again;)

The only people that go to pool 2 are the ones that get a tag. Everyone else stays in pool 1 for next year. Unless you transfered a tag to someone in your group 2 years consecutive, then both of you go to pool 2. Or if you didn't apply at all.

I've studied this topic inside-out, to get the best advantage I can in a s**tty system.

I think you should get a good understanding of the moose draw before you shoot your mouth off! The people who did not draw a tag from a group only go back into pool one for the next year. Not he same year! If a tag is drawn with in the group. All the group members are discounted from the rest of the draw. This is done to have a more even and fair distribution of tags. All the group members stay in pool one only if no member of the group draws a tag with in the group, and only if there are tags left over in that WMU. That is why it is beneficial to apply as a group. It gives you and your group members another chance at a tag.

Dave.

without wading through all the posts in ythis thread I can say this:

DO NOT APPLY BY YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you have a way better chance of getting a tag if you apply as a group

there should be no question of whether or not to apply individually or in a group( if you have both options available)

if anybody in the draw elected to apply singley(SP?) instead of as a group( if they had both options avaialbe) then they deserve to not get a tag( if they had both options available)

now you ask me.." what happens if my group does not meet the garunteed group size?"

my answer to that is......STILL APPLY AS A GROUP.. you will have so called dibs on sloppy seconds( tags)

Dear dave B**W M*

I'm not shooting my mouth off i did not say you get a second chance at this years draw if your group gets or does not get a tag BUT! NEXT YEAR everyone but the person who actuly got the tag goes back in to pool one.

so Not he same year in deed dave

trust me this guy has horse shoes up his ass..last year he pulled the bull tag for the group.......this year he applied single......and he pulls a cow tag..
now this is why i started this thread to ask..is it better to appy in groups or apply single..
and from what i read so far..go for the group

That can't be if the system is working???
He would be in pool 2 the second year & basically NOT eligable for a tag!

I quit moose hunting a couple years ago because it became to hard to get tags & our gov't wants to make it an eliteist sport for the rich.
Tag system not required for them
Case in point, Joe Rich decides to go moose hunting.
Goes to a fancy lodge, purchases his moose licence, then pays $$ for a room which comes with a bull tag
You & I have been unable to get a bull tag for said area for 20 yrs!

It IS possible as some areas had surplus tags. After all groups and persons in pool one that applied for a tag for that area had drawn one, the persons in pool two were then eligible for the remaining tags.

my pops has been skunked 2 years in a row now.. he was even in pool 1 this year.
Pretty ####ty. He was going for a cow, and I was going to get a calf. But that went all to #### when aug 1st came around :(

Are calfs real hard to find guys? "First time moose hunter here" Don't they stick with their mothers?
