My history fails me often enough, but I was under the impression that the Nagant brothers made the 1895 for the Russian empire and sold manufacturing rights to several people including Poland until the Russians bought the manufacturing rights from the Poles late 1890s then resold the plans and tooling back to the Poles in 1928. The poles continues to make the 1895 from whatever spare parts they had left over for a while after that.
I do understand the Russian made them through to the end of the second war and then some as the sample above indicates a 1944 date.
I also though that it was the Russians that bought all the tooling and plans from the Nagant brothers for scrap metal, not the Poles, when they dissolved the company as one of the brothers, Leon I think, was ill and died early year 1900. I think he was going progressively blind. The other brother died a few years later.
Anyway, gewehr76, thank you for that clarification. I appreciate the learning experience.
