Lets see Some Hunt Camp Pics

Need ideas for a light weight portable hunt camp for about 4-6 people. I don't want to rent a cabin anymore. We hunt for a week or 2....
Thanx

Sorry about the sidetrack on your thread.

What we used for years what just a pole frame made of jack pine. Drape tarps down the sides then lay another pole across the bottom to seal each side. Throw another tarp over the top and tie it tight. If it's cold put some spacer poles across the roof then another tarp. It creates an airspace and prevents sweating. A couple of cots and a $100 air tight stove and you're happening! For a door we took a sheet of plywood, cut a door in it. Attach 2 hinges and voila!

You can make it what ever size you need. Our frame lasted about 10 years so after the first set up all we had to do was put new tarps on it.

Well you can buy a good old cheap truck camper from the 70's-80's for 700$ or less for hunting that can sleep 5. Then someone can sleep in the truck if you have crewcab.

Maybe pack along some Frebreeze for the trip. We spent a week in the bush and hit a fast food joint on the way home. Lots room all around and they were happy when we took the food to go.

To me the easiest way to go is pack a tarp and make your poles in the bush. Put plastic grommets in the appropriate places at home, drive heavy finishing nails in the ends of whatever the bush has to offer for poles. Rebar for pegs will cover most types of ground. If your hunting situation allows for a dog, that is the best bear alarm going.

He he is. Note the shovel in the back for some perspective.

Could also use the what appears to be 4x8 sheet of plywood as reference, nice bear!

That looks like a pretty spendy tent there grizz! The benefits of tarps is that if the get burned from fire sparks etc you're only out about $50 instead of the $500+ I'm guessing you spent on that beauty.

And yes, that is a 4x8 sheet of plywood we used to help get moose into the back of the truck. I should have taken a picture of it skinned, the damage was impressive. We did manage to save a few roasts too, I hate wasting meat.

Sorry for the hijack JR45-70

I was wandering through wholesale sports today in Nanaimo and having read your predicament I saw a display of a Canadian range trailer with a rapid deployment tent. It looks awesome and with the additional tent extension it should be able to accomodate plenty of hunters. There seem to be place for a Quad in the front etc etc. lots of accessories as well. Your truck or trailer will still have place to bring back your trophy and meat. I was impressed!

Ya I found this web site yesterday as I was looking for tents. I would like to see one in person before I buy a tent trailer for the family camping, I could use one all year around, hunting and fishing and the family. It looks lite weight and nimble and has a lot cargo area. I am going to contact them and see if the material would hold up to a wood stove. I also like the fact that it is made in Canada
Thanks

For a drive up camp it's tough to beat a wall tent with a wood stove. Dry, comfy and you can walk around in it. Get a bigger one than you think for 4-5 guys. It's nice to have a tarp "porch" for the tent to keep firewood dry and have a cooking space or for storage. If bears become a problem just shoot them, not like there is a shortage of black bears.
