Let's see some photos of your non-Chinese manufactured external hammer coach guns!

I hunt ruffed grouse, spruce hens and and blues in medium to heavy bush without a dog :(. Most of my flushes are close (20 yards or less) and medium (20 - 40 yards) range with a heavy emphasis on close and unexpected

I'd go with the 20" straight stocked 16 gauge (just like my Dad had before he got married) with #6 shot and I/C & modified chokes.

Good stuff. There is hope for you yet. How would a hammer gun work in that situation?

Do I hint a note of sarcasm?

I'm not gonna step into that :D I do hope to make your acquaintance in person one of these days and find out why the word "torment" means so much to you :D :D

The CZ hammer gun is 20" only. They used to have a hammerless version but it is no longer shown on their website. Between the two I prefer the hammerless.

If memory serves that was the Durango and had a single trigger. I use my coachgun exclusively for grouse hunting and really like it.....I have started to carry that in addition to a 28 or 20ga. Had to switch to the hammerless model more for safety/peace of mind reasons :) as the small gun change hands quite often :)

That does look like a steoger. I sold that exact gun only with an english stock to "Ardent" a couple months back. I beleive he is selling it again. Beautiful gun, much nicer than the norc I sold to buy that one.

I bought it from Ardent. I was considering the Chinese one from CanAm, but this was a much better gun for only $100 more.

It looks great. Haven't shot it yet though.

It's very nice to shoot, and a nice gun to look at too. It was fun but for some reason it just didn't fit me right, must have been the english stock. But thats why I bought it in the first place. Enjoy it.

This is my Russian hammer shotgun.
Bought 30 plus years ago for $45 new.
Would have to chop the barrel in half to make it a coach gun, which isn't going to happen.

I had one of the Tula (russian) SxS 20" double hammer coach guns, man that thing was built tough. Not pretty, but tough. I actually prefer that to the 20" nickel Stoeger hammerless coach gun in terms of function.

I know this one is hammerless, but it's the ultimate "up close, brush so thick I can barely keep my balance, oh crap there goes the grouse" gun in my mind. A 1916 Ithaca Flues .20ga with the barrels sawed off at 20 inches by some sadist way back when. I bought it from a first class CGNer and the woodcock, grouse and rabbits in NS no longer had a place to hide!
I looked seriously at hammer shotties but decided they couldnt be trusted in the thick crap 100% of the time.

No making fun of the dog fur in the photo- at least my toes aren't in it!

Sweet upland game shorty Jaydog! So you've left it cylinder?

don't worry about the dog fur, most of us don't have access to such a high-fidell photo studio:D

Nice shotgun!

Yep, shes all cylinder all day! I have an Argos Eibar SxS choked M/F for longer shots (pheasant etc.) but for super close brush shots she works fine. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks shes a gem!
For those of you wanting to start a photography studio, just kick the dog off her bed, throw it over 2 cases of beer, balance your favorite gun and VOILA. ;)

Posted by Tyler on the photo zone. Any idea what make is that?

Isnt that one of our very own CGNers in that pic?
Never met him in person - but seen him behind the counter where he works.
Don't want to "out" the guy in case it isn't him or he doesn't want to be Id'ed.

No, i am not weird or stalkerish.

X2 !! That would be a shame, alright. That model of Baikal is one of the few SXS open-hammer shotguns with full length barrels, proofed for nitro loads, that has been sold in any appreciable numbers in the past 80 years. I know; I've spent the past 5 years searching for hammer guns of all kinds. The only other 2 3/4 chambered, nitro proofed open hammer shotgun I've found was an Armi San Marco (and they're now defunct).

Because I love hunting with the Baikal so much, I've picked up a 12, a 16, and a 20 gauge version. The 16 was my first purchase. I found the fit and finish deplorable, but the gun itself is solid and reliable. So, I refit and refinished it myself. Looks great. I got the 20 a year ago and the 12 only a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to make a project out of refinishing the 12 and 20 together. When I'm done, I'll have the complete set.:D
