Lets see some pics of your Tacticool VZ 58/858s

I like it! :)

I would be curious to see FDE furniture on one of those tan VZ!

I think I prefer it with the black furniture to be honest. Breaks it up a bit. Here it is now with a couple of goodies added. Sorry for the crappy pic.

So back from the range.

Good news first, this rail was very sturdy. No wobbles and held zero for my optics as best as I could expect.

Bad news, FTE up the yin-yang. Optic was not over the brass deflector at all. I had on average 2-3 FTE per 5 rnds. Now I think this is for several reasons that may not be related to the rail.
- 1st is the paint in that area is rough, which my have aided in the malfunctions. I noticed a lot of chips of paint removed from the casings so if I smooth this out it may improve.

- 2nd reason. The ammo I was using. I used 2 different types of surplus. The first was the Russian/Romanian lacquered classic. The 2nd was norinco copper washed. I found I had more malfunctions with the norinco copper washed ammo. Lacquered I found maybe 1 malfunction in 20 rounds or so. A lot but still less. For some reason when I used Lacquered ammo, I didn't have an FTE during fast firing. With the copper washed, it was FTE like a baby crying. I'm thinking the copper washed shoots a little hotter, as with all norinco ammunition, but I could be wrong.

This was just initial testing. I would need to have a good range session and dump several hundred rounds to really narrow down the problem.

I also believe that the angle of the deflector cut directly into the rail could be a little steeper. As the rounds eject almost strait up it may help with at least some of the FTE'S that are happening. I. Am no engineer, just one man's observation.

For now will I keep using the rail? Absolutely. It makes things a little more fun for me at the range, especially doing drills, as I need practice on IA'S. Hopefully this is just mainly an ammunition issue and it will sort itself out.

Luis you may want to set your optic a little further back if you see evidence the shells are contacting its bottom corner.

From your pic it appears that the EoTech may be sitting over the ejection area of the rail.

I did do that, it helped, especially with the lacquered ammo. Th eotech is pushed back one rail space. I am honestly thinking that the majority of the FTE I experienced was due to the copper washed ammo. I didn't really have an issue with the lacquered stuff. I'm going to try a few of the things I posted earlier and we will see what happens then. Thank God I have a ton of the lacquered stuff lol.

I have tried all manner of ammo in mine, including the Dominion Arms Ukranian made ammo. I do not shoot corrosive though. Is the "copper washed " ammo you refer to corrosive?

I have had a failure rate of maybe 1%, so one in 20 still seems very high to me and I would be personally happier if we can find a way to make the rail work better for you. Up until now the biggest issue seems to have been placement of the optic on the rail, so I suggest experimenting with that. Try running with EoTech only, set well back, for example.

Sorry I was sending it on my tablet and my keyboard on it decided to not work properly so I had to trouble shoot lol. Should have it now.

Zhukov ak handguard

I like how that handguard gives a nicer look to the long barrel. What type of fitting issues did you have? I am guessing that the top rail does not hold zero though. Is there any way that you could mod the handguard to put an NEA or Bc tactical upper hanguard whithout it looking rediculous?
