Let's see those $299 Winnipeg SIR RC K98's

Every time ive walked into SIR in the past 6 months they have been low or out of stock on everything i wanted. They used to sell and apparently still do, just none in stock, the Kimber .22 conversion. I've been wanting to get an xtra mag for it, as it is advertised on their online store. Thy have been out of stock since the beginning. Even their .22 ammo selection is horrible. I dare to say theres more selelction at Canadian tire or Wallmart. Not to mention al the other kind of ammo. I dont know what the problem is there, if it's because of business problems or if its the fault of their buyers not keeping the store properly stocked. When I asked them when to expect the mags to come in. They said whenever they order them in the new year, and that once the order was placed, it would take another 6 months before they got them.... wtf. It's now April and last time i called them they still weren't even ordered. They don't give me the choice but to buy elsewhere. I'm thinking of nabbing myself one of their SKS's. I just hope those are still in stock when i go and buy. They are a great store but in my opinion are having serious problems with always being out of stock with ammo and guns. I've noticed this trend about a year ago and it's still on going. :(

Do you really think it's worth the $100 premium to pick a code (it's just a mismatched, ground, buffed and sanded RC K98K)?

I don't know, but I bet Jean Paul at P&S pays much closer attention to the rifles he sells than SIR does, judging from what I hear.

Jean Plamondon personally hand selects each rifle in the states before buying and importing them. I understand TradEX does the same. SIR, on the other hand, just orders pallets of whatever CAI is selling from what I understand, and they don't hand select and send you photos of the exact rifle before buying.

What you're paying for at P&S and TEC is a premium hand select service.

But on the other side of the coin, you could get the code you want with only a good bore for $100 more, or for $100 less an excellent bore with a code unknown until you open the box! It can go either way!

If you bought 4 at $299 = $1196 and 3 at $399 = $1197, you esentially end up getting one FREE at the $299 price!

What would I buy?

Do the MATH!!! One Free K98!

Allow me to compliment your math skills;)
However things are not quite like that; I live in Winnipeg and I am yet to see what SIR K98s look like(and I go to SIR once in a while and have their pamphlet as well). So good luck finding one.

Claven thanks for the tip about the East German models, I want the best value in a slick mauser action and that old world attention to detail not a certain code or insignia. Where is the best place to get one of the east german rebuilds?
Do places like SIR stock them or do you have to look on the exchange?
What is a price range and can we see some pics?

Let's put it another way, those who scored them at $299, knew they were a good deal!

Unsub, a Norwegian K98 may be more what you are looking for like at P&S.

ffffffff

Many parts will be electro-pencilled matching by someone with the skill of a vodka fuelled peasant.

This was way too funny claven!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D

It's not far off though. Anyone whose seen the EP work on these K98k's would be hard pressed to disagree.

It's odd, but the EP writing on refurbed Mosins is almost always nicely done in rather nice script - almost as though the workers felt some form of affection for the arms they used to repell the fascists.

The workmanship the same depot workers put into the K98k's, on the other hand, is generally not as good and done much more haphazzardly - almost as if it was borderline insulting to have to work on these fascist implements at all. ;)

just put in an order today for one, they are on back order till middel of may,im 35th on a list of 50 rifles they are getting in.

I know what you mean Claven. the electropenciling on my K98k's floorplate and triggerguard is disgusting. It's so bad that I'd actually rather replace them with unmarked parts even though they'd no longer be forcematched.

PS: Since everyone ignored Coyote Ugly's request for pics, I might as well step up.

Mine was of the same batch as SIR's but bought from Tradeex, I thought the $100 premium was worth handpicking my preferred code. I also splurged afterward and put her in an appropriate stock set (the one it came in was belt sanded to all hell on the butt, and had the wrong style of bands etc.)

If you're willing to put a bit of time and possibly money (buying a stock instead of refinishing) into it, you can get a real beauty:

The bolt is electro penciled to match on the bolt body, safety wing, and shroud. The Barrel and receiver are matching and both wiemar marked.
