Lets see your 338-06!!

I had a Weatherby ultralight weight in 338-06.

It was very effective on game, and used with success on an elk and a bison. Both were DRT and was always happy with the cartridge. I just had too many that did the same thing and due to long range trajectory, the bigger magnums were the ones that stayed.

You won’t be sad that this is your choice.

Bevan King chambered and fit one of his barrels to the action.

I believe I have shot 3 moose and several mule deer with this rifle from as close as 75 yards to as distant as 350. None required a second shot. Modest velocity coupled with a "tough" bullet results in very little meat waste.

G'day Boo, do you have any details regarding the recovered TTSX? distance, animal, what the bullet travelled through? looks like great expansion at modest velocity.

That particular bullet was recovered under the skin on the right shoulder. The bull was quartering away hard at ~250 yards and I actually hit him on the outer side of the left hip and the bullet went on to take out the last rib on the left side and pushed through about 4 feet of moose. The bottom of both lungs were taken out as was the top of the heart. He went about 30 yards after the shot and piled up struck between two small fir trees.

I kept all the blood-shot meat to the side as I cut him up and the total lost was ~10 pounds which is pretty good.

I am a firm believer of heavy bullets at modest velocity on heavy animals to prevent meat-jelly! ;)
