Let's see your 338 Edge!

I have an atrs built 338edge ai. 30" rock creek barrel, trued 700 action, mcm a5. It seen about 550 rounds now, plenty of horsepower. If I was going to do it again I would like to go to something like a dta srs, or the defensive edge bullpup style. A 30" barrel and 4" brake makes for a pretty long rifle.
Anyone shot the Chinchaga 300 or 325gr? They look pretty impressive.

Sounds awesome! Pictures?
What's your current load?
How far have you stretched it's legs?

Not a real good picture, but my .338 Edge is a Defensive Edge Canyon rifle. Mine is on a Bat repeater action, 30" Hart Fluted barrel, Jewel trigger and HS Precision stock. In this picture it is wearing a 8.5-25 Mark 4, it is currently fitted with a Nightforce NXS.

Nice rifle!!
How does it perform?
What's your load?

91 grains of H1000, 300 grain SMK, 215M and Remington brass. I get 2860 fps, and it seems quite capable of 1/2 MOA at 1/2 mile. I have shoot 300 grain Elite hunters and they are fine, I just resist even thinking about changing because what would I do with my current stash? Besides, I've found them devastating on game.

Several of my friends shoot Edges and everyone eventually ends up back at H1000. Its pretty forgiving summer to winter.

Sorry don't quite understand. Are the SMK or the Berger devastating on game? I was hoping to try the Hornady 285 ELD-M if I can find some. But there is something to be said for availability. Should have my EDGE complete sometime this winter so I am doing as much research as I can.

The SMKs, I've never shot the .338 Elite hunters on game so can't comment. Ordinarily I'm not much for hunting with SMKs but I'll make an exception for those ones. A common result is a very dead right now deer with its lungs ripped right out the exit hole. Can I say that in Precision rifle? Will delete if not.

Here is the 338 Edge we just finished building for a fella up in Fort St John.

Defiance Deviant Hunter
Benchmark Spiral Fluted 9.3 twist
McMillan Gamescout
Wyatts box
Trigger Tech trigger
EM Precision Sparc muzzle brake
Burnt Bronze w/ Black Cerakote

Gorgeous work, wow!

So what's your guys reasoning for going with the edge? Seems like a lot of extra cost and component headache with minimal gains over the standard lapua. Am I incorrect?

I like the fact that I don't have to dedicate an action to the lapua bolt face. Also it's just different. I'm just getting a edge AI finished.

Initially it was supposed to be a bargain method of equalling the Lapua in common sized actions and bolt faces with cheap brass. The Edge actually even predated the .338 RUM. Going single shot seemed sane enough, and a 4" COL that a Rem 700 couldn't extract a loaded round on without hitting the bolt release likewise wasn't a big deal. Life was good, and the future bright.

It hasn't exactly worked out that way, RUM brass went through the ceiling. When I started with the Edge Nosler brass was a new and mysterious thing that went for the crazy high price of 34 bucks for 50 for the RUM case and Remington was half that. Lapua seemed insane. Never really anticipated that being the good old days.:( Somewhere along the line, people started realizing that modding up a Remington action cost about the same as many custom actions that came the way you wanted them. Guys wanted repeaters, and discovered that Remington had good reason for making the .338 RUM shorter the the .300 RUM. Once you cross the custom action line, settling in on a Lapua action isn't that big of a deal.

In spite of a few glitches and "oops" along the way, many of us are sort of invested in the Edge and our invitories of brass and custom dies. Also, they seem to have an uncanny knack for always turning out shooter after shooter. Don't know why, and quit wondering. I do know that H1000 is the fast track to happiness.:d

To be honest, there was a 30" McGowan prefit barrel on the EE, lol.

Sounds like my story. Wanted to find a 7mm barrel. Found a pre chambered edge barrel instead. It was brand new, never installed.
I've fired about 200 rounds through it. Love it. But have decided to sell it.

RUM brass used to be readily available and reasonably priced. Essentially making the edge a budget Lapua. But the price of Rum brass has completely changed that now.

I hear ya! I splurged on the 5 bucks a pop Bertram and kinda rethinking the whole edge thing.
If the performance wasn't so promissing and I had a reason to load from a mag I would have also gone 7mm.
