Kurgan; Thanks for posting the pics. That is the same rifle posted May 20/12 with the stock "cleaned" up & repaired. --- John303.

Has anyone noticed that custom/semi-custom stocks tend to have a pistol grip that sweeps back at a shallower angle than most custom stocks? I have noticed this as a trend; factory stocks tend to have that downward sweeping pistol grip that i have decided, after a few rifles, is not nearly as comfortable.
Lots of examples of both in this thread.

Perhaps this is an example of the old fellas getting it right the first time?

I noticed this as well. To a large extent, I find the pistol grips on many vintage hunting rifles more comfortable for a number of reasons. Perhaps its just "buy what fits you best".

On behalf of John303:
"My latest Mauser, a 71 converted to 12 gau. and takedown. Cleaned up the metal, refinished the stock along with redoing the checkering. It was a blind purchase solely on the word takedown, I hoped it was a 98 but am pleased with the surprise. At $50 can't really ##### can I."

That is one of the neatest Mauser conversions I have ever seen and on a 71 to boot. The resourcefulness of some gunsmiths knows no bounds.Had to be a fair bit of thinking put into this one.

Thanks for posting Kurgan and others for their comments, I also would like to see this become a sticky - a good idea. A second great idea would be for me to learn, got to get the kids to teach me how to post pics. I have a lot of odds and ends to show just don't like to bug others. --- John303.
