Yes, the scope worked best, but it was a cheap Barska and didn't take to the recoil 
and self destructed. That was b4 Magwedge 'was a thing' in my world. The red dot on the barrel was OK but at ca 20+" was hard to see for an 'old guy' here. It was proposed by a 'sometimes member' on SKS forums a few years ago. If you took the time it was good - for a red dot, BUT still shot like an SKS - 4-5 MOA I tried a 'rear-sight' mount but I could point and clik just as well . . . another red dot 4-5 MOA again.

1st firearm I ever bought, after receiving my PAL, was a Russian SKS, like a couple decades+ ago Had almost every config at one time or another.
SKS's of all types have always been a favourite/staple in my collection/shooting repertoire. Used' to own many.

Reliable, tough, easy shooting semi auto vs bolt gun....yeah no contest.
It definitely served the Chinese better than the SMLE served the Indians in their war, although that wasn't the biggest factor. It still didn't help. Mind, the first world armies had FALs and stuff by then.
I'll go one better. For the average WW2 grunt, the SKS would have served better than the Garand, too. How many people were actually making shots past 200-300 meters? More reliable, carry more ammo, easier to shoot well, couple inches shorter, a pound lighter, coulda replaced the M1 Carbine for lots of em too actually etc etc.
