This isn't your typical bush gun,..but it is what I used this year for my bush gun,... a BLR 81 in 284win with a red dot sight,..makes for a very excellent close cover hunting rig.
This is the only picture I have of it right now....
Remington 750 carbine in .308. 18 1/2" barrel. Knoxx recoil reducing stock (feels like shooting a .22). Cheap Red dot with clear covers that I don't mind whacking off of trees. Single point sling lets the gun hang at my side with the muzzle even with my knees. Keeps my hand free to swing a machete (I'm the resident hound dog at our camp). I've stuck with 168gr win ballistic silver tips lately. Taken deer and moose from 15 yards to 200.
tromp'n through the bush is why i picked this gun up.
the more i take it out the more i love it.
Ruger Scout left handed in 308 with a Leupold relaxed eye relief forward mounted glass (my first time trying this set up).
I have : Ruger #3 in 45-70, Rossi 92,45 colt, and a Winchester 94 trapper in 30-30. All good short range guns (45 for less than 50 yds). I have quit big game hunting but still injoy these rifles.
Compact bolts = smaller, more calibers, generally cheaper to have many different optic / sight options
Levers = faster cycling
I personally chose bolt guns because in tight bush there is rarely a second shot..... And to me, that negates any practical advantage a lever has.... Also, I hunt exclusively with bolt rifles, and almost exclusively with one action, so the familiarity is nice....
Much altered M1917 Enfield. 2-7x Bushnell Elite on top. Good for both up close and pretty far out there launching 250 gr Speer Hot Cor and soon 200 gr Leverevolutions.
