lets see your thick bush guns!

I guess I should add the .358 BLR to this thread... it makes a dandy bush gun... flinging 200 FTX bullets... great for tight spaces and fast action.

Nice,

How do you find the Bushnell Red dot setup vs scope? Has it stood up fairly well?.

Actually, hate the things... I set that up for my dad for last year's deer hunt, he put an Aim Point on his BLR back in the early 80's and got used to it... he gave all of his guns to my son, so when he gets out I set one up for him... I pulled a VX-3 1,5-5X20 off the rifle to put the red dot on... sick, eh? Crazy thing is I was shooting 1.5" 5 shot groups with the red dot on it at 100 yards... he shot a big doe the year before last at 79 years of age.

Lol.... It puzzled me as well....I didnt figure it would be your style..... Had one on my turkey gun for one season, and although it did the trick, it was promptly removed after.... Neat enough, it's the first gun I her bought myself and now sports a Boyd's and a turkey barrel with tru glo fiber optics....

I just picked one up to give it a try on a 77/357.
Part of me wants to like it, but it looks so clunky. It may just get swapped for a VX-R 1.25-4

Ironically, that red dot came off of an 870 turkey gun in a Boyd's stock set...

No pictures to post yet, but am waiting on a new to me Ruger Alaskan chambered in 375 Ruger, just got put in the mail today. This will be my thick bush(and ideally all situations) gun. Need to get some quick detach rings for it so the fixed 4x scope can come off in a hurry for the real dense brush and can go back on again for shots out to 300. If this gun works out like I hope it will the 7mmRM may not see much hunting action this fall. Really looking forward to the 20" barrel vs the 26" on my 7mm when hiking in the woods.

Tempted to sell my 870 to fund a McMillan stock for it as I never use the shotgun it seems.

I hope so, I've lusted after a handy medium bore for some time, been sold on the 375 Ruger for quite some time as well, I bought all the reloading components for that cartridge about half a year ago because I knew my next rifle would be chambered in that cartridge. I like the idea of a large heavy bullet moving at a modest speed vs pushing a light bullet at high velocity(like my 7mmRM).

One thing I will say about NE BC is that it is basically the area I fantasize about when I think about buying a 358 norma and hunting grizzlies...

I think this little .243 is going to be perfect in every way come deer season in Ontario. It just arrived today, but it sure feels like its going to be a nice carrying rifle.
I'll give you 3 guesses as to which CGN Ruger nut I got this from.

I don't need to guess..... I looked at it myself..... For all the rugers I want, And I need one in full stock for my modest collection, he seems to excel at selling the ones I don't want and keeping the ones I do.... I personally think it's a conspiracy.....

I've seen the pictures of the other beauties that Hoyt has had up for sale and now have purchased one myself. If this is a typical example of what he's ditching from his collection, I can't imagine the caliber (sorry for the groaner) of what he keeps for his collection.

I actually wanted that one (but had no money after buying another), and it dissapeared from the ee for a bit and I bought a compact m77 .243 from prophet River instead in the meantime.... Then it recently popped back up and you got it, at a good price from a good seller so congrats..... The vertical stripe in the wood of the butt spoke to me....

HC has a lot if European calibers, and I tend to shy away, for no sane reason, and I know that......

As an example, he has two very nice ultralights up right now, but one is a chambering I have and the other is one I want, but not a priority for me.......

My new brush gun arrived today; an H&R 500 S&W. Debating whether I should cut a few inches off the barrel or not.

Going to add a skinner rear sight for sure.

He just got it from me...........thought it was going to become a 358 Win but I guess not...............HHMMMMMMMMMM.

Nope... I kept yours unmolested, Douglas, as seen in the picture. I had another one that was being converted... until I just purchased (stateside) a Ruger M77 RS Carbine in .358 Win... which made the project pointless... I also finally found the M77 International 7X57 I have been looking for (also stateside - Kaching!)... and, I still have an M77 7X57 being converted to 7.62X57... that should prove a fun one to play with.

Yours is the second down... and it is still here... soon to be joined by two more;

We had a new hunter join us for his first deer hunt last year so I gave him a model 7, 7mm08 to use. Since then 'I've been on the hunt for something that would suit him well and this rifle is it. He has an affinity for full stocked military rifles from WWII, and as I expected he liked the look of this rifle. Once he gets a chance to carry it for a day or two, I'm sure he will appreciate it even more. If he doesn't, I'll let him carry the Cooper 30 06 that in had to carry last year, then he's sure to appreciate it.
c-fbmi, if our young hunter sees some of your photos, I'm sure it will serve as inspiration to do one of your rifles justice.
