lets see your thick bush guns!

My new brush gun arrived today; an H&R 500 S&W. Debating whether I should cut a few inches off the barrel or not.

Going to add a skinner rear sight for sure.

I'm not into H&R rifles like the T/C Prohunters and Contenders.

I've been thinking about getting a restricted length 15" - 16" 460S$W Prohunter barrel

so yeah shorten it unfortunately you can only go down to 18.5".

In the next few weeks I'm having a 23" stainless T/C Contender carbine barrel chambered in 6.8spc and a 24" stainless T/C Encore barrel chambered in 45-70 shortened to 19"

I like short barrels on single shots

The rifle is already very short; and I can only take 3.5 inches. I wish we could cut to 16 inches here then it would make more sense to me.

You say restricted length, do these barrels take the prohunter under the mminimum legal length? I thought you could swap a short barrel onto it as long as it was factory and over the minimum assembled and still be good to go.

I think my next rifle will be a 454 casull Rossi; but only if I can find the 16 inch model ;)

Restricted (shorter than 18.5") barrels can legally be installed if they were manufactured to a length shorter than 18.5" if and only if the overall length of the firearm is over 26".

A 15" barrel installed on a Prohunter with a 14" length of pull butt stock should have an apprimate 30" overall length.

My 14" barreled T/C Contender carbines are appr 28.5" overall length.

I have spoken with the CFC and they tell me a restricted barrel can be legally shortened to whatever length you want because it is already classed as restricted.

As they are not recievers; is one required to register them, have an rpal etc to purchase them?

I keep trying to sell myself on the TC encore but I think I would rather own a variety of rifles than one modular platform. The CVA scout in 460 S&W looks interesting; but has an atrociously long barrel and a godforsaken massive @#$% off muzzle break. That one would require a cut and crown; no questions asked.

No shorter than 18.5" restricted length barrels do not have to be registered.

If you mount a short barrel onto a long gun that is shorter than 26" you have a prohib.

I set up my son's 16.5" barreled short stocked T/C Contender carbine in 22LR @ 26 3/8" OAL.

Here he is holding it when he was 3.5 years old.

Can't remember if I posted a picture of this little stinker but I really like packing it in the hills and timber around the cabin.
Its a 358 and now I'm working on a 280 gr cast load for it, seems like it might be a good cast bullet shooter..

went through all these posts, most just bul#### ..how come I never saw one Ruger #1?..That is what I was looking at getting for a bush gun, maybe I am missing something?

You obviously missed the pic of my Ruger single shot quite a few posts back:confused:
It's not a No.1 however but a 3, can't tell however.

I use this one for brush and open country alike.

Interested in the .500 performance Conor....... Back in the day I needed a yote rifle on the cheap and bight an H&r "survivor" on the cheap...... It really impressed me..... I was getting sub MOA groups handily.... And I can't say that for all of my rifles....... They are neat little rigs (the survivor platform is lame, but all I could afford)....

^that looks just about perfect for NW BC carverk.

Where do you get these short barrels? Import them from SSK?

I bin picking them up used from EE and Facebook but bin thinking about importing a 15" 338 fed and a 45-70 just to round up the Collection
With work I'm all over the place and the T/C is so hand travling it's to bad no one is bringing in The short barrels for us

I think the survivor in 308 would make a good brush gun; different strokes I guess. 500 looks good, wood is much nicer than expected. Was brand new; I installed a scratch while removing the zip tie.

Will likely never sell this one anyways; too cool. Maybe when it is worth a couple grand to some lunatic. Going to bring out the .338 for black bear but the 500 S&W will be on hand and might get a few days hunting.

Carverk; I was looking at the SSK website and they will make you a 50 Alaskan that looks like a cannon; who needs a 45/70?

Problem with the Survivor being a bush gun is that it is really heavy due to the bull barrel..... I also disliked that it didnt have iron sights as a back up.....

Brad the 500 has the illusion of weight because of the heavy barrel as well. It is actually pretty light but you can't seem to convince your arms of that.

On my way to touch off some very expensive factory 500 grain loads from it so we will see how it does. So far I just really dislike the rear sight; so skinner replacement is a for sure thing.
