lets see your thick bush guns!

Oh dear , at least you won't loose it in the undergrowth . A hunting buddy has a Benelli in 300WSM , it's an accurate and , so far , reliable rifle . Yours looks like a handy little rig . What length is the barrel ?

My GSR....

16.1" barrel, .308 with factory 3 round magazine. Shoots stupidly accurate, scared the heck outta me when I first grouped it. Scoped, it's put them around 1.25" and that's just a 3 round group.

Cheers,

Anglia2 the bbl is 18.5" inches. It is very well balanced with great ergos. The raised rib has quick acquisition battue sites like those on my Tikka Battue. I think there is a can of matte black Krylon in it's future.

I'd imagine it would be a quick handling carbine . There are some really good rattle can paint finishes out there now , I used a Krylon flat tan on a Savage I have about three years ago . It still looks pretty good .

I had actually ordered purple/gray laminate with a Kick Eez recoil pad for my wife but it showed up pink/gray laminate with a pachmeyer recoil pad.

I called Boyds they told me to cut the stocks in half take a pic and email it to them to prove that I had destroyed the stocks and they would send me the correct stocks going for orange/gray laminate this time because while I was waiting for the Contender stocks I bought my wife a Muddy Girl camo bolt action Win XPR in 243 they come with detachable 3 round mags she doesn't hunt this will be her camp/defence/plinking at targets in the mountains rifle being muddy girl camo she knows we won't ever touch it other than me working up a load and sighting it in for her plus I don't have to lose on of my Contenders.

I have several Contender barrels I class them all (some more than others) as thick bush guns this mornings hike I was looking for grouse/coyotes/blacktail deer I hiked thru logging slashes and on trails thru thick bush I carried the 19" barrel in 6.8SPC loaded with 95gr TTSX @ 2880fps I'm good in thick bush out to 300 yards with this barrel/bullet combo.

Here is a list of some but not all of my Contender barrels...

sst was 23" shortened to 19" 204 Ruger
sst 16.5" 22LR match chamber
sst 21" 223 Win
sst was 23" shortened to 19" 6.8SPC
sst 21" 7-30 Waters
sst 21" 308Bellm
high gloss blued 21" 35 Rem
sst 14" and 21" 375JDJ's
matte blued 18" 10mm
SST 21" 410
sst 14" 45 Colt
sst 14" & 22" 45-70
sst 24" Gonic 50cal magnum muzzle loader

I'm always looking for other barrels right now I'm looking for a sst 14" contender barrel in 17HMR would be a super grouse/rabbit/bobcat combo if I'm looking at adding coyotes/mtn lions onto the list I'd grab the 204 Ruger, 223 or 6.8SPC the rest are coyotes to moose capable.

By far my favourite combo's for hunting anything are the 375JDJ's...

Just yesterday I purchased another T/C Contender carbine barrel this one is a made by the Thompson Center factory it is stainless steel 21" medium taper chambered in 375 Win it should get the same ballistics as my 14" 375JDJ barrel oh yeah it will be a nice out to 200 yard thumper.

Meroh it shoots 3/4" (scoped) with my 165 gr loads (3 rounds off a lead sled). I read some negatives about Benelli's accuracy but this one performs. It is an ugly beast but the user friendly design and quality make up for that. Weighs as much as a synthetic Remington 7600 pump.

Ugly? No way I'm liking it = won't loose it especially when you need to grab it in a hurry but this is my Rem 870 12 gauge 14" Dlask barrel Magpul stocks so you may start understand.

Burnsy how are the sights on that bad boy? Can you take a picture looking down them? Love the sights on the tikka battue

1892 Winchester in 44-40 is my really thick cover deer rifle. Likely the lightest rifle I own too.

The 1886 in 45-70 for the big thumper, and the 30-30 for the middle ground.

My uncle shot maine moose with a real mccoy 1892 in 44-40.
Now you need an ultra magnum to ‘humanely’ kill a moose.
Go figure.

Camp Cook I like your style!

Here's a web pic of the sites. Same red/green fibre optic as my .308 Tikka Battue. Unlike the Tikka it does not have any inserts on the ramp. Instead there is v groove that leads the eyes to the sites. Really fast acquisition.

This unit might be my favourite setup ever! Two deer this year with it, one at 60m and one at 30m. .308 Tikka t3x battue with masina QD mount (on and off in 10 seconds, returns to zero) holding a Trijicon TR234
1-4x german reticle accupoint.
