lets see your thick bush guns!

Got my latest rig sighted in today, me thinks a slip on recoil pad next time to put some cushion between the metal buttplate and me. Should be handy in tight spots and I love shooting with both eyes open.... Just have to figure out a sling, not sure about drilling the forearm for a stud with it floating on the hanger? Maybe a barrel band needs to be added...

My thick bush guns are normally the same as my open country guns. I don't feel a need for ultra short barrels, detest muzzle blast, and shoot better with some weight forward balance when shooting quickly and offhand. So no, I don't own a "brush gun" on purpose, but I do have a Marlin guide gun 18.5" 45-70 and a Chiappa M94 20" .44 that would qualify in the brush gun category. I just like them for variety and for general shooting, not because they have short configurations or use short range cartridges, which they do.
 
So what you are saying is you are just like most of us...

My carbines/rifles have the following barrel lengths 14" - 16" - 18" - 18.5" - 19" - 21" - 22" - 24" - 26" chambered in cartridges from 17 - 20 - 22 - 243 - 25 - 270 - 7mm - 308 - 338 - 35 - 375 - 10mm - 44 - 452 - 458 - 50 cal in lever - single shot - bolt actions.

An example is my 21" barreled Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM with 260gr Accubonds @ 3020fps is good for me out to 600 yards - close in defense I have 350gr bullets @ 2450fps.

Muzzle blast is not an issue for me being deaf in my left ear since I was 4 years old I have some of the better types of hearing protection from molded plugs to molded electronic hearing aids and muffs so never shoot without hearing protection.

I'm thinking you haven't experienced shooting with really short barrels much it is amazing how fast handling and accurate they are.

I've owned two M92 Rossi .44 carbines with 16" barrels. Yes they are "fast handling" - fast to shoulder, extra fast to wobble off target, fast to miss whatever it is I was trying to shoot. A considerable compromise in field accuracy compared to even the 20" version. Yes, they shoot accurately off of a bench rest, but are pathetic offhand or in field / improvised rest positions. I still have one, I kinda forgot about that when i posted above. It is pretty useless, but I keep it because I want one rifle that is capable of acting as bear repellent at spitting distance. It is theoretically useful for that one purpose. Handy to carry when you're not actually serious about shooting anything, but want the insurance. I could probably use it from a tree stand at bow ranges to shoot almost any type of game. But generally useful as a walking/stalking/stillhunting rifle? Not for me.

I’m quite happy with my two rigs, confident at 100yds with the scoped 1885 and 75 with the Henry with buck horns offhand. I shoot them the same as my bow, get the sight picture a little high and let it slide down and as soon as I’m in the vitals I squeeze without any hesitation. Works for me anyways....

There is a best tool for any given situation and I believe these do have their place in my safes.

Does this count? Troy PAR in .308 16” barrel. It’s been my go to rifle for the last year or so. Didnt have much trouble ringing the plate at 250 last time I was out, even without the bipod (yes I know it’s on backwards)

I dream of shooting a moose/elk with it, but I seem to take something more practical every time I go hunting.
