Good afternoon to you sir, I trust this finds you doing acceptably well on this second last Saturday of the month.

It's interesting to see the trends and directions that the current generation of coyote hunters is going - and it's encouraging for a semi-old guy like me to see the next shift enthusiastic about it all too.

This is a scan of an old school long range coyote bomber built in the early '90's and sorta typical of what you might find then. It's built on a military 98 action, much modified Model 70 stock, Timney trigger, Douglas Premium Air gauged No 4 contour, 1:14", 26" barrel and chambered for .22-250AI.

That's with home made snow camo too as there was none back in those primitive times!

Here's stock number two on it, this time a reworked S&W - Howa short action stock that was cracked when I bought it for $20 at the Penticton gun show years later. The guy would only sell it to me for that if I agreed to tell him how I was going to fix it - so I did and he kept his end of the bargain up as well.

This is the coyote rifle in waiting, since as mentioned I'm not getting any younger and frankly dragging a 12lb rifle around the local mountains doesn't appeal that much to me anymore. It's a slightly reworked and painted Ruger American in .223 with a 1:8" barrel.

No local dogs have met their untimely demise in front of the Ruger as yet, which reminds me we've really got to get out and call a few more times as they're quite talkative this time of year.

Thanks for the thread and thanks again to the folks who've participated, its grand to see other folks sharing the passion for chasing coyotes.

Nice job on the facelift!! Looks much more user friendly and proper now with the camo stock!! :)

hahaha camo stock is out ! The tactical stock is in. From a proper cheek well to easier fitting mags. From a flimsy camo stock to being properly bedded and supported.

I doubt the yotes will find any difference but I certainly do !

That first bomber is a gem !
I love coyote hunting because it find it the most challenging of all here in Ontario.

Have yet to get one in the new year, but I will be out at dawn and dusk on Monday !

Do you find any POI change when you switch stocks ?

No I don't (not appreciably anyway), but I only shoot it when the synthetic stock is on (which is torqued to the same spec each time it gets mounted). I should probably just stop being a wiener and use the wood stock.

Just putting mine together...

Tikka T3-X stainless .223
Boyd's Prairie Hunter Pepper Laminate stock 14" LOP
Stainless Sako Optilok Ring Mounts
Leupold VX-3i 3.5-10x40 CDS scope
Set of Elite Series action screws from Mountain Tactical to replace the cheaper factory ones

Im not one to tell anyone what is or is not a good coyote gun. Personally, I can't bring my self to waste a perfectly good hide on a coyote, even if the market tank and they become worthless, I just can't do it. So after a lot of time and a lot expirementation my brother and I finally found our "perfect" coyote guns and loads.

Right hand CZ 527 Lux in .222 rem
Left handed tikka m595 in .222 rem

19gr of IMR 4198
52gr Berger FB Varmint
Winchester Brass
Federal Match Small Rifle Primers

Both guns shoot a consistent 1/2" 5 shot group at 100 yards. Hands down best 2 rifles we've ever owned.
