Hello; I also am a newbie. I am looking to purchase some 30-40 krag brass for my new rifle. Am very willing to pay whatever is a fair price and would appreciate any help from members. Does anyone currently shoot cast lead bullets in 30-40. I have been casting and shooting for many years but this is a new calibre to learn.

proper 30-40 brass is getting increasingly harder to find, and more expensive. higginsons powders is probably your best bet, or you can make it easily from .303 British brass. this leaves you with a slightly shorter neck but works just fine.

Welcome to CGN ;)

NAA.

Hi. Better to ask on the milsurp forum, but .30-40 Krag ammo and brass is only made seasonally by Winchester and Remington with no mention of when that season is. It is rumoured you can make it out of .303 Brit, but it requires a a bit of machining.

Welcome indeed. And I always believed deep down, that the 170 gr RN Nosler Partition bullet designed for the 30-30 Winchester cartridge, might very well be the bee's knees when seated on top of a
30-40 Krag handload!

lol ;)

Ditto, FL size, load and fire. They come out short, 2.21

L > R: new 303 FL sized and loaded, fireformed case, fireformed case loaded. fired 30-40 case.

I was unable to find any 30-40 cases, so no other choice. Easy fireform, no special instructions.

I have a line on a original 1895 in 30-40 Krag here abouts. I had bought a old rifle at an auction and this guy came over to talk to me about it. He's also got a rifle in 30 Rem also. Nice to have others that like the old calibers.
