Lets talk about aiming with iron sights (rifle, shotgun)

Ok I do the same 6 o’clock hold with my open sights rifles, but 6 o’clock of what? I mean how big is your bullseye? Cause if your bullseye is 4” that is good but if your bullseye is 10” then that is quite a bit of difference meaning you are 5” high from your point of aim.
I usually use a 4” square as my bullseye and do a 6 o’clock hold at 100m. But I might change that for how Meroh does it.

6’ o’clock hold is for load testing and target shooting as it allows a hold point on a target of a known size with a non disrupted sight picture. Great system until the target of a known size goes out the window…..

For shooting at things with fur I find I like point of impact to be right over the top of the bead and I mean right over the top of the bead.

A colorful sticky note turned 45 degrees makes a wonderful target and gives a great holding point for setting up a hunting rifle.

#4&5 work okay if the rear leaf has steps in the notch, not all leafs are created equal or even have adjustable blades on the leaf
on my Ruger and Anschutz I can put the bead in the bottom, half-way and top with some precision, chicken/pig/turkey, ram gets some hold-over
but the bead still goes to the 6 o'clock
