Lets talk about Girsan

I have been on the hunt for a 1911C in 9mm, preferably with a rail at a reasonable price for a while now. I was it Reliable the other day to pick up a small item and I had a look at the pistols. In the corner a 1911c in 45 caught my eye so I had a look at it. Low and behold it was a Grisan 1911c with a rail AND it was optics ready. And man, It was a pretty sweet feeling pistol. Had all the bells and whistles you would find on a higher end 1911 but for about $700.
After speaking with the owner a little more he was able to find out for me that they make it in 9mm. Sweet!
So I started poking around on the net and found that Girsan has quite a few more offerings that have come to the Canadian market recently aside from the Beretta and M&P9 clones. One of there offerings is a raced out copy of the czp10 that comes with a MRDS for $600. Wow, that seems like a killer deal.
I have a Girsan Y16c (Beretta clone)which has been a good, reliable gun and has proven to be a better shooter than I. No issues whats so ever and the fit and finish is fine. I feel like there are other Girsan owners out there but act like owning a Girsan is a dirty little secret, I know I do. (Granted I do have my Girsan y16 listed right now so I can fun the hot little piece that is the MC1911 OR).

Who else has a Girsan? What do you have and how has it been for you? Would you buy another? A different model? Thoughts on some of their newer offerings that are coming to the market. I would love to hear from some one who has bought the MC9T Xtreme. At $569 its the cheapest way into the pistol with optics game.

I have one of the Beretta 92 clones..I was very surprised with the fit and finish. The parts fit with very close tolerances, and the slide is extremely smooth to rack. I feel like it's worth more than $479.
 
Canik TP9's are another nice Turkish pistol. Think the firing mechanism is from a Walther P99 and is licensed. Good trigger, and uses Beretta 92 mags that just have the mag release notch in a different spot. I was able to create a cutout my self in some MecGar M9 mags. I haven't had a chance to live fire test the mags in the TP9 yet, but they cycle snap caps just fine and lock the slide on empty.
 
I just got a Regard FDE June 10, waiting on the transfer. The price is unreal compared to an actual beretta m9 and I haven't really seen bad reviews of girsan online. I do intend to change the grip though so hopefully beretta ones will fit

If you have the finger groove version, grips fit, but the frame profile is different so they don't match up 100%, you have to do a little filing.
 
For the 1911's, they have come along well, first offerings were pretty basic, beavertail but basic sights kind of thing.
I've got a few Philippines 1911's (STI/Shooters Arms) and they have been really good shooters. I'm sure the Turkish versions would be comparable in price and quality.
 
I as well have one of the 92 clones and am very happy with the product. Shoots great, feels great, looks great. I have never seen anything bad said about a Girsan firearm.

Keep us updated if you "pull the trigger"

My opinion, My experience;
I used to have the Beretta 92 clone. I shot it side by side with a real 92 and I liked everything better about the Girsan. (I sold it because I don't like frame safeties).
I have the MC28 and I like it better than the mp9. (I really don't like the trigger on the s&w).
I have the Canik TP9SA and I like it better than all others mentioned. It has the best trigger of everything I've ever fired.

I can give you a review on the MC9T I got from Tenda in about 8 weeks. I'm in ON and unfortunately that's how long a transfer takes here. But I cannot wait to get it.
 
I just bought a Girsan Regard at Tenda this morning. I was pretty impressed with the fit and finish of it. I compared it side by side with a Beretta 92FS and M9. The slide on the Girsan was definitely smoother then either Beretta’s. Who knows if that will still be the case after a few hundred rounds. I also preferred the the grip of the Girsan with the finger grooves on over the Beretta’s grip.

Overall I was impressed. With the cash I saved buying the Girsan, I indulged in a Sig 1911.
 
I had a Girsan Regard/Yavuz full size for a while and it was amazing. I did a test to see how many rounds it would shoot before malfunctioning and needing to be clean, spread across multiple range visits. I never did succeed in getting it to stop... caved and cleaned it...

For those with the 1911 or 92FS clone, are they mil spec ? Would you be able to install parts from Brownell etc ?
I have read on the web that the Girsan 1911 uses metric grip screw and grip bushing like the Norinco ( the post was from somewhere in 2000 ), and the grip screw head is too big for standard 1911 grips.
The price sure looks good, but something that can accept all mil spec parts seem better.

Dunno about the 1911's, the 92 is a 92F clone, not 92 FS, it lacks the big slide button that keeps it from hitting you in the face if the front of the slide cracks, front sight is part of the slide, not dovetailed.
Everything 92 fits it for the most part, locking block is different, grip profile is different a wee bit and looks a bit off unless you file them. Everything else I've tried fits fine... extractor, guide rods, springs, slide stops, pins etc.
