I want to make it clear that I do not own a XD. Why? I hold a grudge towards Springfield Armory. How, so? I remember when the Croat pistols sold for $249 (US) and I was busy buying other handguns. I am now very sorry that there is this gap in my collection.

I have fired a whole bunch of XDs and they have all shot well for me. These include the 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45Gap. I liked each and every one of the XDs I shot. I like the grip and I also like the trigger on these Springers.

Let me know your opinion of the Croat. Thanks and

Regards,

Richard :D

Love them...almost got a great deal on a used one recently. Will probably be adding an XD40 to my collection sometime in the near future. Definitely like them much better than the Glocks that I've tried...shoots much more accurately out to 25 yards.

I was quite surprise that you don't have one. I shot a XD 9 and it group better than some other so call big brother. I am afrid that you have to add one to your safe.

My XD40. The only negative I can give it is the durability of the original finish. This one has since been Armacoated.

2000 rounds and only one jam. I blame a reload for the one jam. Had a small problem with the chamber loaded indicator last week. It was staying in the up (loaded) position because some crud had gotten into it. Wasn't a big deal but kinda freaked me out when I felt it in my holster and thought for a minute that I had not unloaded.
Can't complain from a reliability stand point.

I use it to shoot IPSC and I have a couple of complaints but they'd probably be true of any service pistol. The take up on the trigger is kinda long and the sights are too big for those long shots. Other that those 2 points I like it.

Have a few thousand rounds through my xd9 and still love it. Fits me well and I like where all the controls are, especially the mag release. I shoot right handed and use my middle right finger to eject. Much easier and faster for me. The only thing I did was to use an orange touch up sight pen to change the white sights to bright orange.

I don't own one, but I've shot several of them on several different occassions...definately add one to your collection!

Customer service in Canada sucks bum, but seeing as you're South of the border, I'd say all is good.
I heard a story recently that S.A. has been pushing these on Law enforcement agencies down south and a great number have been breaking during trials. S.A. has been exemplarary in expediting repairs or replacement guns, but still the breakages were quite high. (I trust my source, but still third hand info, so take it FWIW.)

I have XD9, one of the first one which came to Canada, and my first handgun I purchased. Helped me with my Black Badge and that is all I can say about this pistol. Its ergonomics do not go with me, I prefer 1911 type and was going to sell it, however my wife showed some interest in shooting pistol so probably it will stay with us.
On the very positive note,
easy to strip, clean, actually you don't have to clean it and has never jammed. I shot around 1500 rounds through.

Richard, my XD40 has been an excellent pistol. I bought it from another CGN'er and it has functioned perfectly for the 15,000 or so that I have put throught it so far. I would (and do) recommend it to anyone who will listen.

I"ve put 5000 or so through my xd 9, the only issues have been my reloads....maybe a thousand give or take through the xd 45 before I traded it...same deal..great guns, yet to have anything break....

I like my XD9, for a number of reasons which include: great ergonomics, every control is within reach, it's light, but the tactical has enough weight on the front end to keep the sights levelled, grip safety, all parts besides the frame are steel including the full length guide rod, ambi mag release, firing pin and loaded chamber indicators, fully supported chamber, good trigger with aftermarket shortened and lightened replacements available, cheap reliable steel magazines, increasing parts availability from Springfield and aftermarket sources and my list goes on. Oh yeah, and a lifetime warranty, although I'm not sure if I would be able to take advantage of it up here in Canada. I have fired around 2500 rounds of every type of FMJ and HP bullets that I can get my hands on; 0 failures. 100% reliable. I haven't done much to customize it apart from painting the front sight blaze orange, painting the frame 'Coastal Rainforest Camo' and adding a Clipdraw, and my custom finger groove/hockey tape grip (real Canadians use hockey tape on everything). :D

I've had my xd9 for over three years now, and with thousands of rounds down range, I haven't had one failure. When I first bought it the finish was kind of rough (a burr in the slide chewed up the guide rod), but a quick buff with a dremel took care of that. I prefer the clean break of the xd's two stage trigger to the gradual creep of my Glock 19 (even at 3.5 lbs). The xd's recoil is a little snappier than the Glock's due to the slightly higher positioning of the bore, but a Hogue wrap around grip makes it really comfy, you just gotta trim it a little to clear the grip safety. I don't think I'd ever sell it, I wouldn't get a price anywhere near the amount of pleasure I get from shooting it.

I bought a XD40 in 2003 and it is a great pistol (approx 80000 rds) through it with no problems. I recently bought a XD45 and love that as well (approx 2000 rds) with no problems either.

I will be testing the Life Time warranty by sending my XD40 back for for a full spring replacement and service check :)

I love my XD's
