who hunts with the 6.5 Grendel? what game are you comfortable taking? deer? black bear? moose? elk? other?

what is your rig/kit?

do you handload? share some data? favorite bullet/load?

anyone have data on the performance from barrels from 16.5" to 24"?

what other cartridges are in the Grendel family?

how can the 6.5 (and others) be improved?

I had the American for awhile. It just didn’t do it for me. It felt too long to be really handy like the Carbine model. I ended up switching it out for a T3x in 6.5 Creedmoor. Pretty much the same weight and size. Shoots heavier, more efficient bullets faster. The recoil is pretty minimal either way.

I wish the 527 was in a Carbine with 18.5" barrel or FS with 20" barrel rather than the American 24" barrel.

I would buy an FS immediately and never let it go...

I’m waiting for my Mac Defense SLR received set to put together a Grendel. Have all the rest of the parts ready except for a scope.

I’ve got a few hundred brass but haven’t loaded any yet.

It will primarily be a deer/ black bear rifle but with a good bullet and within appropriate range, moose would be on the list too. Although it’s not a first choice moose gun. :)

I’m not saying it couldn’t hypothetically kill a moose, but I wouldn’t even consider it personally. Once that bull of a life time walks out at 400 yards, you’ll have nothing to show for it but a cool looking rifle and a whole lot of regret.

I built a 527 6.5 Grendel ten years ago, swapped it into a varmint kevlar stock, was a neat rifle and enough for sheep, goats, deer, black bear. I’d stop before elk and moose personally, it’s a light round, treat it like a .243 and go have a ball. The ultralight and handy rifles it comes in are a treat.

I'm currently building a 6.5 Grendel SLR for deer. It might also work as a precision-ish rig since the Grendel has great ballistics. Does anyone have a source on ammunition? Can't find much available online that is somewhat inexpensive.

Super interested in 6.5 Grendel for my SLR build, but for now I'm holding off because it doesn't seem like there is a lot of 6.5 Grendel "stuff" here in Canada. Would like to be proven wrong on that point.

I just ordered a 527 American from Prophet River, Lee dies from Amazon and will be grabbing some 140 gr hardcast from Jet & Hornady brass from Canada Brass.
That was easy.:runaway:

Curse ye buggers fer makin' me buy stuff.:p:p

Im waiting on a Macabee receiver, then will have the final piece of my Grendel puzzle. I wouldn't hesitate to take a moose with the cartridge with the 100gr Barnes, 130gr Accubond, 125gr Partition, if distances were sensible (200y or closer). With a 123gr ELD, I feel it's a 400y deer load.

Alliant AR Comp looks good, I have an 8lb jug of it and 500pcs of Starline brass

Also waiting on my SLR receiver for my lightweight Grendel build. Have a 20" BSF Barrel and a lancer carbon fiber hand guard to keep it around 7lbs with an optic. Going to start load development with Lapua Brass, Hornady 123gr SST's, and IMR 8208 XBR. I've also picked up some Hornady Black factory Grendel ammo. Definitely not a common caliber in Canada currently, but I think the SLR and the new bolt guns will help that!

You bet. Yours even has decent walnut. They are a pain to get as we have to get these 527 American in6.5 G from CZ USA . Neither of our Canadian distributors carry them. :( Strange as they do carry the HB multi one in 6.5.

CZ USA site shows the buggers as a discontinued/limited production model, too bad. The folks workin' the coyotes or deer & such in the open spaces would have fun with 'em. :)
