Lets talk Glock 30 / pics welcome :)

When purchasing the Pearce extensions be careful of what model you order; some will add rounds to the mag capacity making it illegal (i.e over ten round capacity, right?). There are Pearce extensions that DO NOT add capacity as well. Order what is right for your magazine. I have ordered PLUS 1's for my 9 round magazines and PLUS ZERO's for my ten round magazines. They enhance the grip considerably, but I find shooting either a G26 or G30 to be fine without the extensions... just a bit better WITH the extensions. The other thing is that when carrying stateside, the extended grip makes for a great propensity for 'printing' and makes total concealment a bit more problematic but not totally.... for instance the G26 with a Pearce extensionon the magazine turns it into a G19, no?

Both great guns by the way. Also take a look at the Ruger P345 .45ACP.

I had a G30 and sold it because it was virtually impossible to seat a full mag. That was a deal breaker for me.

I agree that seating that last round in the G30 can be rough... but I always felt that 9 rounds was sufficient anyway if I could not be bothered fiddling.

Wonder if using a Pearce +1 in order to get that tenth round in easily makes it totally illegal... or not... since you really can't get the tenth round into the mag without the +1 extension anyway.

I don't bother myself. Am happy with 9 rounds and if I am determined I get the tenth round in using the loading thingamajiggy helper.

I could be mistaken, BTW, but seems to me that adding the Pearce +0 extension loosened up the spring just sufficiently to provide enough space to get that tenth round in without all of the jiggling and primping.

Well unless you get one with an extended barrel over 106mm they are prohibited except to grandfathered people. (Must have owned a short barrel pistol before 1995)

I see they have them at Questar with an extended barrel. (see above)

even if you have grandfathered they stay prohibited. you just have the right class to own it.

playing with words :D

tactical tupperware...plastic wussy gun...get a real gun. lol, just kidding. i shot a Glock 26...or 27...dont remember...not bad. its a compact gun but its not realy made for target shooting.

A better question is what have I "owned" - Unless you have an unlimited supply of money, I find I for the most part "rent" firearms for a short while, then sell them to buy new firearms :)

I owned at least 20 restricteds and 40 non-restricteds to date :)
In my opinion everyone needs the following: x1 12-gauge shotgun, x1 .22lr rifle, x1 pistol (9mm, 40S&W, .357mag/.38spl or .45acp) and x1 .223/.308/7.62x39 rifle for a starting point for a collection :D

As many here will tell you, it's an expensive hobby and whatever you decide to get, it will not be your last; good luck on getting your RPAL.

lol, that's exactly what I've bought in the past 2 months:

Rem 870P
Rem 597
Glock 17
CZ858

Does anyone have a pic of the G30 with the extended barrel? Glock lists the barrel length at 96mm ... so does it only stick out about 10mm on this one?

I'm either purchasing a G26 or G30, but would like to know how controllable the recoil in the G30 is?

I have been out shooting my G30 and my G26 (and a few others) a whole bunch lately. Several hundred rounds and I have to say that the G30 is the best CCW gun I have found; the G26 I have has a ported barrel and is also outstanding. Especially for concealed carry (stateside of course).

I compared the above to a: Kimber TLEII/RLII, Walther P99AS, Beretta 226, Ruger P345 and a few others.

My choice? Unwavering. The Glock 30 followed by the Glock 26 for backup. In fact, I may even sell the G26 and stick with the G30 alone.

As far as the others are concerned. The Kimber TLEII/RLII (and the Custom II and the TargetII) are all too heavy for concealed carry but the TLEII/RLII would make a good duty weapon. The Walther P99 AS is outstanding and not too heavy for concealed carry; it's dead accurate and smooth. I am going to hang on to it for now. The Beretta 226 is too heavy for me for CC but great for duty carry or whatever. And lastly, the Ruger P345, of all the ruger semi autos, is probably the only one that I would really like to hang on to as a CC piece. So, in order of appreciation... Glock 30, Glock 26, Walther P99 AS, Ruger P345.

There are plenty of others on the market to play with as well, needless to say, but you had asked about the Glocks in particular. Gimme another two weeks and another few hundred rounds through each and I will tell you if they are "bet your life on them" reliable.

I must point out that in order to be Canada Legal, Questar had to install STORM LAKE barrels on both of them and these barrels had a problem as they had been milled for a .42" dia groove instead of a .50" dia groove for the recoil spring on compact Glocks. Without hesitation, Questar stepped up to the plate along with Storm Lake and resolved my problem instantly. What were 'jamomatics' are very likely now 'bet your life on me' guns. I cannot say thank you enough to these two suppliers, both of whom are, in my book anyway, outstanding. If Questar carries anything I am looking for they have my business, one hundred percent, regardless of price. Ditto Storm Lake. Quality and service... one cannot ask for more. I just hope they will deal with me after being such a pain in the butt about the jamming thing.

BTW, I bought holsters for both the G26 and the G30 (leather) and discovered that they are so close in size that you only really need one for either gun. The G26 fits the G30 barrel just fine, albeit a wee bit loooser, it is still snug.

I have added a +0 extension to my G26 magazines and +1 extensions to my 9 round magazines. The Pearce extensions actually turns the G26, for all intents and purposes, into a G19, but gives you the option of leaving the extensions off and just using the baseplate for better concealment or pocket carry (stateside, stateside guys).

And thanks, BTW, to James at Safeguard, who has been a great help. Hope he gets squared away with Florida. I have about ten U.S. carry permits now. Florida sure would be a good one to have since they don't recognize any other non resident permits. Last time we were in Orlando I had a gun stuck in my nose.

Thanks for the rundown TGG!

It really torques me that even though there are many of us (myself included) who are still deemed trustworthy enough to own the short pistols we owned before, the rest are deemed otherwise, and I can't even buy a new one.

I would ideally love a test drive, but if forced to buy without, I'll be going with the G30, as I shoot and reload 45ACP, coincidentally for my Kimber TLE/RLII!

You're right about a Government model 1911 being awful heavy and large for CCW... hence the G30!! (Not in Canada of course...)

Well, here's a thought. Get yourself a G30 with extended barrel, ported. Go with Storm Lake. They are great. And with Questar. They are great as well. The ported barrel ports are just outside of the slide so the slide doesn't get all messed up from heated gasses and crap. And play with it for a bit. I would bet that after a couple of hundred rounds of .45 you are shooting just as well at 30 feet as with your Kimber. I can hardly wait to take the Black Badge course and get into IPSC or IDPA. Should be loads of fun... and your pants won't be falling down when you holster your gun.

I was thinking of getting the G30 with a Lone Wolf barrel in BLACK ... is this also a good option?

I'd love to see more pics of what the G30 looks like with the extended barrel

The finish on those barrels is crap compared to the factory glock barrels. If I could go back in time I would have got the stainless barrel when I bought my glock26 rather then the black one

G30 with ported and non-ported Lone Wolf Barrels...

Here are a couple of pictures for those that were asking...

Ordered one today .. can't wait to have it in my hands !!! Cheers to Questar for bringing in these otherwise unobtainable beauties !!

Is it possible to buy the 9 round mags that are flush with the bottom of the gun ?

You can get 9 or 10 round magazines for the G30 it seems to me (at least I have seen both advertised). Mine happened to come with the 9 round magazines for some reason.

What I am doing is adding Pearce +1 grip extensions to the 9 round magazines to give me the legal limit in capacity as well as a longer grip; I am keeping the flat magazine baseplates handy in a wee ziplock in case I want to carry stateside and find the smaller grip to be of value in concealment. I have bought a bunch of holsters to try out... several are intended for the G19 and I am curious to see if the G30 fits as nicely.

It is my understanding that essentially the G19 is a G30 with a Pearce grip extension added to it. (In other words the G19 is simply a bit longer in the grip than the G30.. otherwise the same). That's why I chose to go with the G30 rather than the G19 - more choice.

G30

...if my personal experience is any indicator, anyone looking to buy a G30 should immediately do so!

While I don't have a 30, I picked up a G29 a while back (same gun, but in 10mm rather than .45), and finally got it to the range recently. It is, no question, my new favorite handgun! Dead-on accurate, mild recoil even with full-power loads, very controllable, lightweaight, compact, and with the Pearce extensions (or with full-length G20 mags) super comfy!

pic attached for comparison with some other Glox:
