Lets Talk Shooting Glasses

I have a pair of amber-tinted and polarized Oakleys, they're freaking amazing. They're also prescription, so I kind of have to wear them. Real nice contrast with them though, the orange really "pops" nicely.

Hey all.

Some of the more serious shooters at my club wear reddy coloured glasses.

What are the benefits of the different coloured glasses?

I presume that the red ones show the birds better..........

It depends on the light conditions, Sometimes the "reddy" coloured ones work well. when other times the "Yellowy" ones work best. But in bright Sunlight I like the Purpuly ones.:)

The orangeish yellow ones are amazing. Especially for driving. They bring out amazing details and lines that you can't see with the naked eye. I put a cover on one of my scopes that is yellowish and it improves my bush hunting.

It's all about getting something with interchangable lenses. I have an old pair of Oakley M frames, so I can swap out my clear, amber, mirrored purple tint and deep red. It covers all light condidtions.

The M frame looks a little turbo, and sometimes I would love to have a sweet pair of Yellow aviators ala the Kokane Ranger

Here is some info from my Ranger XLW perscription glasses

MediumYellow - highkights orange clay targets and enhances contrast and brightness in low light

orange - excellent all around lens for orange clay targets blocks haze and blue light and enhances orange

Vermillipn (purple) - orange targets against a green background highlights orange and dampens green

Ranger has 13 different colours and my perscription set comes with three lenses

Great glasses and do make a very noticable difference

hope this helps

Everyone's eyes are different and what works for one shooter might not work as well for another. I was at a shoot where one of the companies had a wheel behind the line with all the various colours. You watched targets and dialed the wheel until you found what worked best for you. In overcast conditions against a green background light target orange was best and in bright sunshine dark vermillion (red/purple) was best. I also found target bronze was good. YMMV.

Another benefit to shooting glasses is hunting. Really makes the blaze orange stand out. :)

I shoot shotgun with Decot HYWYD'S. Bronze lens with blue blocker is my usual color for our club light conditions and white targets. Sent them back to the factory for some new lens's and Victor was very helpful and made the transaction painless. The Decot team really know there stuff and stand behind there product. Cheers!

RE or Randolph Engineering make glasses for the US army You can get them at many retail locations I have the ranger xl set comes with three colors I picked yellow vermillion ranger bronze my favourite I also got clear and deep purple. In my experience the ranger glasses are superior to decot or any of the other brands

And probably the 2 most expensive out there. If money's an issue at all...check the Browning website, Cabella's, Remington website. Glasses with interchangeable lens colors available at all of them for much less.

No....they're not Decots....but they're not hundreds of dollars either.

Just a thought.

Or you could order the Blue-blocker specials from the TV ads too ...
they're pretty cheap and they come in two colours.

The stuff from Browning, Cabela's and Remington is basically off-shore junk.

Think your optometrist could fix you up with a pair of non-prescription safety glasses for $ 29.99 ???

.... but it's your eyes, do as you wish !
