Leupold….?

the (freedom) turrets are a mushy mess, but they work well enough for deer hunting. I wouldnt go Leupold on any scope I expect to adjust the turrets on often. Leupold for hunting, Bushnell for targets. Crimson Trace are pretty nice too but impossible to find used.

At the last gun show I attended a fellow had a Leupold 1-4 on his table for $40. It was a bit of a beater and missing a cap. I couldn't get the cash out fast enough. I took an old cap off my 1.5-5 and got a new one from Leupold to replace it.

There is a bit of a niche market now for gloss Leupolds and other scopes for folks who want a retro scope on a classic rifle.

I'm at $400 for the OP's scope.

I’ve noticed this in the last few months since acquiring a blued rifle. When I went looking for something in the 2-7, 2.5-8 or 4/6x range for it, nothing was avail, so I went the Matte finish route. Recently there’s been Gloss versions readily avail and I have no need for one.. Just my luck

I've never owned a Leupold scope mostly because there are other brands that cost less and have done well on the rifles I mounted them on. It's like answering the question: How much scope do I really need...? I like some thing that goes to 12 power - but I could make due with less optimal power. At the long end a 15 or 16X would be my maximum power level. I've shot deer, elk, caribou and moose using lower power levels (under 10x). I've heard and read a bit about how some Leupolds may take on dents - from the rings, or getting banged against something like a rock. Maybe some people tighten then too much. So far I haven't dented any of my scope yet. Each to their own though.
