I'm looking at shooting a savage 10fcp with a hs precision stock on it. The scope on it is a LEUPOLD 3.5-10X 40 SCOPE. What would you guys say the maximum useful range for this scope would be? I have very good eyesight, so that is not an issue. I'm new to long range target shooting, and would just like some info. Thanks for your time!

I've used as low as 9X for hunter rifle class in Burns Lake and it worked fine to 1050 yards. Not able to resolve the 4" X ring {square} but no problem with the 12" Blue bullseye.

Now that I've used a higher power scope, 10x is only good for 100 yards lol. I like my 10-40x, and it never usually goes below 30. IMO, this is an area where more is better, but that is not to say what you have now will not get you going.

Seriously, how big is your target going to be, how much contrast does it have, and do you have another way to judge range?
